Alan,
In your vast Beta library and technical info - any chance we could get a list of colour options / paint codes? Even just the options would be a great starting point and the detail can be built up later over time.
This question has come up a few times in the past, I'm particularly interested at this moment in time in Series 1 colour options, but I think everyone would benefit if we had an accurate and comprehensive list to reference online?
What do you think?
If a co-ordinator is required to compile a list of colours and codes specifically for the Beta then I am happy to act in this capacity. It will require forum members contacting me with the details of their basic colour and the paint code (usually on a sticker on the underside of the bootlid / trunk)
-
I can see what I can do, I actually don't have a vast collection there is a lot I don't have! I do have some colour cards though but they don't always identify which year they were specific to. Give me a few days to have a look at it. Reds are very confusing as there are several racing reds with different codes, on your sample you show Bangkok yellow as series 1 but AFAIK it was series 2, series 1 cars were maya yellow (just how sad am I?) anyway I get the idea .........
-
Alan, yes forgive my lack of accuracy!
That should have been S2 for Bangkok yellow.
With the help of all forum members and the original colour charts/options we can build a much better list of colour options and their codes.
Appreciate your input...

All
Michael, aka Fulvia 3 has kindly sent me a comprehensive list of Beta paint colours, codes and years. So I am we'll and truly underway.
Many thank Michael this is very much appreciated!!
I could not have asked for a better start to this little project. Once again the forum and its members have already demonstrated what can be achieved when we pool our collective resources.
Watch this space folks....

If you send this list on to me I will check it out for you and identify any discrepancies

The list is coming along quite well already:
Things that are missing:
1. Colour options from 1972 to 1975
2. Trevi paint options. (Theo - Can you shed any light?)
3. Colour options 1980 to End of manufacture.
I have included two column in the spreadsheet "Supplier Fornitore" and "Sigla / Initials", my Italian is not good but I reckon that Sigla is the paint suppliers own code as opposed to Fiat/Lancias code. These two columns can be built up over time and members can post a picture of thier paint code sticker within this thread or mail it to me direct.
To those of you that have done so already my thanks go to you for such a fast response.

Matt
I do have some more info but no time tonight to dig it out, as you can probably see it all gets very confusing and colours changed within series so not as straight forward as might be expected. Not all markets took all colours and different models were offered in differing selections for instance in the UK it seems that the coupe ie was only sold in red or black but the volumex coupe was sold in red, black, silver, met grey or white but neither representing the full colour range produced.
Early spiders up to series two had some unique colours I'll list these later. Anyway I think you've taken on quite a task.
-
Alan
That's great and to be honest trickle feeding the info is probably best, otherwise it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the info.
This is not a five minute project and I think it will be roughly 75% complete then the last 25% will get added slowly over time as little bits of info complete the jigsaw.
Just want to get as much info into one place and male it easy to understand. Not worried about what colours were available to what markets, it is just what colours were available for what model and what their codes were.
-
I'm not sure it will ever be possible to get completely to the bottom of this, colour charts are relatively scarce and often undated. I buy charts whenever I can but only at sensible prices! It is possible that the lmc library could hold more information if you are an lmc member you could try asking (lmc is not my scene so I can't) The upholstery options add another layer and unfortunately these seem less well documented than exterior colours especially with regard to specific colour/upholstery combinations.
-
One thing at a time Alan, interior options may well be done later - but thats way more complicated by different options being available in Europe.
Personally, I do not find this paint info too complicated once it is centralised.

I agree that it will not be too bad the hard work will be checking and double checking accuracy, as regards fabric options there may well be useful info on these in the parts books/fiche as each colour or pattern would have to be seperately identified by different part number
-
Will have another look at this whilst I am sorting out my brochure collection, I think it would be good to include a scan of each colour or fabric within the spreadsheet , eventually of course as that will be time consuming but accurate records for betas are so rare I'm sure it will be worth the effort.
-
Beta spider early, not sure if series 1 or 2 or maybe both as the colour card is undated.
Bianco Saratoga 110
Argento Nevada met 170
Beige Ceylon 124
Rosso Brighton met 191
Beige vinovo 190
Rosso capannelle 193
Actually I think it is series 1 as slightly later cars seem to be available in red whereas capannelle is a kind of burnt orangey red
Note that Bianco Saratoga is a different code to that used on late series cars!
-
Not sure if its any use to anyone but I have a series 2 colour and uphostery chart showing the following for coupe hpe (with interior colour choice)

Nice one! I don't think I have that specific chart, there are actually so many different charts and they are relatively scarce (more so than the main brochures) that it is difficult to collect a full set

So how come nearly all Series 2 interiors are either Beige of Grey? Or am I thinking of the ie's they all seemed to be Grey.
-
That's series 2fl you are thinking of

Beta upholstery colours (all are fabric unless otherwise specified) all colours lancias description which may not tally with your eyesight! example beige cloth for coupe/hpe I would describe as mustard, the red fabric some would think nearer to orange

basic colours of fabric

the 1300 has a different fabic type to 1600 and 2000
there are two types of fabric for 1600/2000 (one type with 'garnish strip' which I take to be vinyl piping)
there is a further variation in the usual colours with a combination of 'velvet cloth/diapered velvet' what ever that is!(??)) in two versions one for 1600/2000 the other for 1300 I suspect this is similar to series one but can't be sure.
light beige vinyl
natural brown vinyl
dark brown vinyl
the above vinyl both with and without 'garnish strips'
leather natural
leather red
leather dark brown
again with or without 'garnish strips'
combination vinyl outer/perforated vinyl inner panel
light beige
natural brown
dark brown
(again with or without garnish strip)
same but in leather
natural brown
red
dark brown
again with or without garnish strip
the above is the best I can interpret the parts book it wasn't written to be understood 35 years later when the cars are almost non-existent!
spider
brown vinyl
hpe
natural brown vinyl
very dark brown vinyl
light beige vinyl
red

leather it isn't clear but I am guessing this is ventilated /unperforated combination but it doesn't say so specifically

Amazing, when you buy a new car now you are lucky to get three choices (one of which will be grey!)

oops I duplicated some series 1 info into series 2 in error! Now corrected. Even so I don't think it's as many as it appears, not all variations would have been available at the same time or on all models, hobsons choice on the spider though not even a leather option on these early cars

Or judging from the cars we see on the road all of them will be grey...
I have a colour chart which is undated ( code is 88 795 996 if that helps). It lists some colours not mentioned in the thread so far as I can see, it also has trim options in 'Velvet Textured Cloth' TVE and Leather. It says it's for Beta Saloon, Beta Coupe, HPE (No Beta which helps date it a little) and Beta Spider
Here are the colour and trim options

I think that is series 2 facelift these options were usually listed in the back of the actual brochure ( the ones with the dark blue covers)
Interesting to note that early spiders seem to be painted in zagato colours whilst later cars used standard lancia colours

By accidient I've just stumbled over what I think is a full set of colour charts.
The colour reproduction isn't great but it does give the names and codes.

Yep, had that self same problem when we had a new Ford C-Max last year. Colour choices were pants, went for a sort of light blue/grey colour in the end, my biggest gripe is that they all come in dark grey/black interiors which I absolutely try to avoid if i can, hence preferring the earlier Beta interiors. Even the leather option was dark grey.....

-
Which is one of the reasons I drive a lime green Ibiza as my daily....
You're right about the interiors though - only Alfa and Citroen offered decent options and sadly the Mito & DS3 weren't for me.
Edit for gratuitous shot of a non Lancia...

When we got our mx5 we ended up with a black one mainly because that edition was available with very light grey seats otherwise the interior option was black black or black, still miss our mg tf though gorgeous special order light blue metallic , grey dash and blue/black leather seats it was a beauty I fail to understand why both manufacturers and buyers are so conservative in the UK, if my volumex is ever finished I'm not intending to paint it the original grey metallic rather a brighter colour possibly Lagos blue metallic much more in keeping with a sporty coupe

Received the chart today, many thanks! I think this was issued over a relatively short period as it includes fulvia 3 which must have been discontinued not long into series 2 beta production. I never realised that you could buy a fulvia in those colours!!

That's a very comprehensive list, i noticed though that not one of these list's has Giallo-Maya for 76 models and i have a 76 in that colour, wonder if it's just another example of italian record keeping. Still thank you for posting that it's great to be able to get the codes.

I think it is metallic blue 132 but I think you will find it is a bit lighter and less strong a colour in reality than that publicity picture

The '132' lighter metallic blue looks too modern to me for pre 80s cars, maybe it is just metallic paint which I sort of associate with the 80s onwards, though guess it has been around much longer...
