Suspension / Re: Clunking Sound from rear of Spider
« Last post by Paul Greenway on Today at 05:50:20 PM »

Thanks for the advice guys, it's much appreciated. It turns out that it is suspension related as we found out over the weekend at the LMC GNW. The clunking/snapping sound was replaced by a crashing sound when traversing a particularly deep pothole. The result is negative camber on the LHS rear wheel. Neil Priestman had a look at it and thinks that a bush (or bushes) may have collapsed causing this. I've nursed the car home but it now needs some attention and I'm not the man to sort. Can anyone advise what bushes these are likely to be or do I just purchase a full set of rear bushes from Betaboyz and renew both sides to all areas? Thanks in advance,

Paul

At least you aren't polishing the inside (yet)

Thank you Nigel.

Chomping at the bit waiting  for the car to turn up.  I guess i will just get on with the yearly underside protection on my old Caravelle and polish my exhaust tips in the meantime 😬

Indeed, my car now has a Clio tank which fits the space quite well. Searching Ebay will bring it up. Some bracketry is required.  This you'll find pictured on my HPE rolling resto pages.

Here's a picture of the two types Peter. It wasn't until I checked the part number cast onto the inside that I looked more closely at the two "broken" ones and realised they are meant to be like that, no jagged edges on them and absolutely identical!

And yes, my headlights have the recesses for the clips but both types fit.

Hi Guy

Never seen the tagless ones. Do your bowls have the required indent to accept the tags?

And to cap off the headlights I have found the missing covers this afternoon lurking in another box which raises a small query! There are two types with different number inside. I have a set of 4 with the tag at the top to squeeze to remove the cap easily whenever needed and a pair without the tag. At first glance I assumed the tables ones were merely broken but they never had the tag on them. So, a question! Should I be using 4 with tags or 2 with and 2 without and if it's a mixture, which is the inner and which the outer? And does it matter! All these, and more daft questions to come as the rebuild continues!

Hi Mark

Those scuttle mounted bottles are hard to find, from memory I think Nigel had a solution?

I should have a spare fuse box/lid you can have.

I have just read this story from start to so far.  Amazing, interesting, useful.  Car will be amazing

Hi Mark

Yes been an interesting if expensive journey. Still a lot of hurdles to jump, but really part of the challlenge.

Hope your car arrives in good order!
