Windscreen
« on: May 11, 2019, 10:55:41 PM »
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
I'm currently putting my 1984 HPE back together and have read with interest previous posts on windscreens about which there seems to be some doubt and uncertainty at times.
I needed a new screen for my car and subsequently decided to get a new Pilkington screen through a local installer.
As part of their checking and rechecking to make sure it would be the correct screen, I received these 2 documents which I think will be useful others in the same position as me.
The photo document shows information regarding the rubber mounted screen, in this case, a bronze tinted one. The nine item schedule covers all Beta Coupe and HPE bonded screens.
The reference after the HT0508 product code gives the tint first followed by the top colour (if there is one) so the first screen has a blue tint with a blue top, the second is bronze without any sun strip, third is bronze with a blue top and the fourth is all clear.
Mine is the bottom one, green tint with green top.
The measurements shown are taken for both inside and outside measurements so you can see that 'LRB' at 1283mm is the screen's width at its widest point, towards the bottom, as measured across the outside of the screen following its curvature. The measurement 'chord', is the same measurement but on the inside taken as a tight straight line (not following the curvature of the glass).
From this schedule and the other info for the rubber mounted screen, you can see that the rubber mounted screens are 10mm smaller  in width and 14mm smaller in height than bonded screens.

I hope this is of use to others trying to get to the bottom of this tricky subject.

For an opening post that's not bad. You can come again!

Any details of the car?

That’s brilliant, thanks. Hoping to have my windscreen replaced in the next month or so. Very helpful.

Hi Logan,

if you don't mind me asking, how much did your new windshield cost? And dit it fit correctly (or is it not yet installed)?

My HPE is currently undergoing a complete paint job, windows out, and I have a reasonable second hand windshield to go in when it's finished, but I was thinking a fresh new one might be better if the paint job will be as good as I hope. I would also need a green tinted one with green top.

Thanks, and good luck with putting yours back together  ;)

Sorry for the delay in replying, I did put together details of my car and photos together in a response a few days ago only for this not too user friendly forum to delete everything I'd put together when I pressed 'post', kindly informing me that it had timed out! Brilliant! Not been back since.
My car is a silver 1984 HPE, looks just like the one in the top left photo above. Just recently it looked very similar to Betaveloce's, see my photo here.
My screen is costing £450.00 incluling VAT through my local windscreen company. I think the bare bones price from Pilkington's is about £275.00 plus VAT and then there is expensive carriage to add to that.
With the schedule I've posted above, it may be worth giving Ricky Evans Motorsport a call to see what they can supply for.

When I get chance, I'll try again to put together photos and history of my car and post in the new members section.

Looks nice!

I ordered this new screen last week on e-bay: https://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/LANCIA-BETA-COUPE-HPE-BJ-1972-81-Frontscheibe-Windschutzscheibe-gr%C3%BCn-Gr%C3%BCnkeil/202662698355.

It's on its way from Germany now; fingers crossed that it will arrive safely... and that it will fit!

My screen arrived yesterday. It's made by Fuyao, which is Chinese apparently...  :-\
But the guy at the workshop investigated and approved it; we test fitted it and it looks like it will go in fine.
Don't know when they are planning on getting the car painted though  ::)

My car is now (finally...) back from the bodyshop, with fresh shiny paint, and to whoever is looking (or will be looking in the future) for a new windscreen, I can confirm that the Fuyao one I mentioned above, did glue in nicely.

Okay, it's not original, but it fits perfectly and looks nice!

Now on to putting the rest of the parts back on and the interior back in  ::)
