Hi Gerard

Not sure if you covered this, but I assume this date of 1979 was the reg date which is very late for a pre facelift car.

Peter

I shall check whetehr the car was registered in late 78 or early 79.  I don't have the docs to hand just now.

Love the Linked In story.  I am going to try this, we should hijack the site and turn it into a car forum

The car just completed a 750 mile round trip to Kilkenny and back, with no snags except when it tried to light itself on fire on the way back (the cigarette lighter burned out, briefly firing orange plasma beams out of its socket).

Next up

Fourth attempt to persuade DVLA to out the car back on its UK plate.  Each time previously DVLA has taken the money and refused the application for an unspecified reason.

Hi Gerard,
In some cases DVLA require an MOT for certain changes, even though the vehicle
in normal circumstances, doesn't require it.

Also visible are four major defects that I'm sure you've addressed, but have not
been officially recorded as been repaired.

Again, I don't know whether this is relevant but sometimes we never know what they
are thinking.

oh,and an Uno Turbo 1997 also in SA [stolen, never recovered]

It had an MOT certificate when I applied previously, and will have one when next I apply.
Everything noted when the car was last tested has been fixed.

Hi Gerard

I can always do you a club dating certificate or letter supporting the return of the original VRN. I presume that isn't the issue but it sometimes helps.

They should also always give a clear reason for rejection, and if they don't, ask for one.

Cheers
Neil

Many thanks, I have all the details from its previous UK registration, which it had from new until 1983.

I know that decisions should be provided with reasons, but at the time I was busy and CBA to write back.   I shall have another go.    I generally find that DVLA is OK to deal with, but this particular bit of DVLA has not been as communicative as some other bits.

Sport Utility Vehicle.

Lancia stopped making vans after the Appia.  Maybe that's where they went wrong.
