Draining gearbox/diff oil
« on: August 16, 2025, 04:06:05 PM »

I have drained the oil from the diff plug, but the gearbox plug is
so tight I haven't managed that yet.

Will the diff plug let all the oil out?

Answer, no it doesn't, but not by much.
I got probably half a cup full from the gearbox plug.

Hi Nigel. Too late now but this is best done with the gearbox and oil hot. It simply flows better and you get more old oil out.

Indeed Eric. It wasn't cold as I'd been for a run earlier, but not
cooking hot.
These days you generally expect new oil to be in plastic bottles. The two
litres of ZC90 I got from Mark were in steel cans, something I've not
seen in years.
Nice and easy to fill with the long dipstick tube!

Mark,
As hot as possible depending on circumstances. As Eric says, the warmer it is,
the more you'll get out.
You'll need a long funnel with a small end to fit the dipstick hole.
