I will leave this open for a month, then once we have total numbers will start gathering up funds from folks, then purchase them and distribute them accordingly.
Modifying the bush eyes from M8 to M10 will have to be done by yourselves. (Done with a sharp 10mm drill and let the eye cool after 30 seconds of drilling)

I'm chuckling at the fact that only one person has actually read the request for the format, despite it being in massive bold type ::)
(Thank you Eric ;D)
Prices of both dampers is covered in the other thread related to engine damping forces.

Hi Matt
1 x Cam Belt side damper
Thanks Tim

Registration for this group buy is now closed.
I now have the total numbers required for both dampers.
Next steps:
1. I will discuss the discount we an get for both items. (Two different suppliers but will check if one can supply both items)
2. I will then contact each person who has requested I order them on their behalf and advise them the individual cost based on the discounted damper unit cost divided by number of members involved. I will post up the Excel spreadsheet for transparency purposes so everyone can see all the facts.
3. Members can then gift their payments to me via Paypal, send me a cheque, bank transfer or pay me in cash when I have the majority of the monies I will order the units.
Postage / Shipping
I will calculate two postage costs: one for UK and one for European shipping.
Please bear this in mind when making your payment as this will need to be included.
How long does it take after I've paid for these?
When I ordered a single unit for the cam belt side I was advised it takes up to 4 weeks as these are made to order, however it arrived after about 2.5 weeks from point of order.
Holiday
Please be aware: I am away on holiday for the first two weeks in June

Any questions - feel free to ask

Hi Matt
Many thanks for doing this for us. I will pay with bank xfer as simplere for me and keeps fees to minimum.
Peter
-
Apologies for the delay in updating this:
Attached below is the spreadsheet with the numbers that folk have requested.
I have negotiated a 20% discount if I order 30 of the Cam Belt side dampers (£53.92+vat each) but that supplier cannot beat the eBay sellers price of the gearbox damper, so I am current waiting to see if the eBay provider can do a discount on the 27 gearbox dampers. (so price may come down a little)
Shipping all units to me currently stands at £16.00 - so everyone just chips in £1.00 - then I have to work out shipping costs of the individual items to each person.
Please please please, if you have any questions then please ask me (got a lot going on at the moment)
-
Matt
To pay you by bank transfer do I just PM you for your bank details?
Cheers
Eric

Hi Matt,
i've ordered 1 x Cam Belt side damper and 1 x Gearbox side damper (reply #15, 7th of may) but i see nowhere my order in the attached spreadsheet..is it a revenge for last night match? :P ;D
thanks again for the great work you are doing
Alberto Clerici
-
Hi Alberto,
It's not revenge just my old age I'm afraid, it is a good job I ordered 30 as that allowed for one extra if I missed someone!
Soon as I'm out of hospital I will update the spreadsheet and upload it. I've just had a minor operation on my neck but will be home in a couple of hours.
You deserved to win last night, Italy were by far the better team so well done!
-
Eric et al,
I would like to leave this post up for all to see, I will also send PM/emails to those that have registered an interest have a chance review.
If folk pull out then I have to go back to the supplier as the price break is at 50 units but I persuaded the supplier to give us the discount at 30, if it drops below that then it gets more expensive for everyone. :(
Plus I'm still waiting to see if I can get a bulk discount on the gearbox side.
Just want to keep everything transparent!
-
Good news, got a bit of discount on the gearbox side.... it all helps :-)
Hi Matt, Febi have had a price increase but for 28 the best price would be £ 22.00 each + delivery
Thanks for thinking of us again

Hi Ian,
I bought one of these off you a few months ago and fitted directly to one of my 35 year old cars... it was a direct fit and works perfectly.
I am looking to do a "group buy" so would be looking for 28 of them, can you do any discount on a bulk purchase of these?

For transparency - here is the quote from the supplier of the Cam Belt side damper. Shame they could not match the price of the guy I initially bought one off from eBay - but costs soon mount up when bulk buying.
You can work out the cost of just the cam belt side inclusive of VAT by multiplying the total for 30 x 1.20 ( I make this £1941.12)
Heres the quote ( I had to scrub out my home address for privacy reasons)

Latest, updated version of the spreadsheet:

Damn... looks like I saw this too late. If you need to get numbers back up (for whatever reason) I'll take one of each.

Hi Matt,
i'll pay via Paypal..is it possible to combine the shipping of the dampers with other parts from lanciabetaparts?
-
I will check with Mark but I don't see a problem, as long as the parts arrive in time. Manufacturer says the dampers will be delivered in 4 to 6 weeks, but when I ordered a single damper it was more like 3 weeks and it arrived.
-
Sorry if I've missed it. How and when do you want to be paid??
-
The order was placed today for all the dampers. Lead time for cam belt side damper is approx 4 weeks. Lead time for the gearbox side damper is 10 days.
I will be contacting everyone shortly with either my bank details or PayPal account details. Entirely personal choice but if your using PayPal please send as a gift.
Cheers
-
All,
Had a phone call from the supplier of the gearbox side damper - they are scheduled for delivery to me tomorrow, so I'm just trying to arrange Working From Home for tomorrow so I am about to accept the delivery.
-
The gearbox side dampers arrived today - for those who have paid and were getting nervous heres a picture! It took a day longer because work would not let me WFH :-(
Just waiting for the cam belt side dampers to arrive which should be fairly soon I reckon. So for those that have not paid yet, start preparing those wallets ;D

I cannot imagine anyone getting nervous with you, given all the effort you put in.

I think I might have asked for payment before ordering, so hope you are not let down with it, though I guess there will be takers over time for any spares you buy and folk on this forum are pretty honest as far as I can tell.
Just to say thanks again for organising them.

Hi Matt,
I'm sorry, is it possible I did not get your info on PayPal account details? (Or did I...? I'll check tonight :-\)
Also, if it would be possible to combine shipping with Betaboyz parts, like someone already asked, I would be interested too, as I have an outstanding order with Mark. If that would complicate things to much, then never mind; I don't want to make things any more difficult for you, especially with everything you have on your mind with the house move and all...
-
Hi Kevin,
paypal details will be sent shortly, I have been sending out payment details in small batches because I do not want to get mixed up as there are nineteen different people to get payments from.
I am not affiliated to Mark ? LanciaBetaParts.co.uk and we live over 100 miles away from each other, so combining with other orders from Mark is going to be a problem and made worse by the fact that Mark will be on Holiday for a few weeks.
That said, I owe you a favour because you sent me some bits for a Beta Tool kit a while ago, so that favour is about to be returned ;D

i'll just wait for instructions then :)

All,
Just had an update that the cam belt side dampers are scheduled for delivery from the manufacturer (Stabilus in Germany) to the UK distributer (F.A.Parkes Ltd) on 7th August, they will then dispatch them to me by courier and then the distribution to forum members will start.
Cheers
Matt
-
Excellent stuff, Matt. We're all very appreciative out here in DamperLessLand... ;D
Seriously, the forum owes you a debt of thanks for your sterling work. Much appreciated.
-
Good news folks - the cam belt dampers are being delivered to me today, but as I am 80 miles away at work no-one will be there to sign for them. So I'll re-arrange delivery to my wifes work tomorrow.
Once they have arrived and I've checked the numbers and that its the right part - I'll be contacting folks for payment and shipping addresses.
Those that have already paid I will be contacting you for addresses if I don't already have it to hand.
-
Even better news - my neighbour kindly signed for them and they are all present & correct ;D ;D ;D
I'll be in touch....
-
it is with great disappointment that I have to write this post but unfortunately a necessity.
Firstly to those of you who have paid for their dampers I wish to express my thanks and appreciation to you.
Currently there are a higher than expected number of people who seem to have not responded at all to any of my advisories or "heads ups" posts on this thread, contacts via Personal Messages and direct emails.
I have spent a considerable amount of time calculating postage costs for numerous forum members who registered their interest in the group buy of the engine dampers and making it easy for them to benefit from such a venture, but sadly five members have not made any payment so far and I currently find myself over £611 out of pocket.
If the remaining five members have not paid for their (7 sets of) dampers by end of day Friday 31st August I will be selling the dampers elsewhere to recoup my money.
Plain and simple.
-
Hi Matt
Sorry to hear this, cannot take any more at this time, but hope you get a good result to your appeal, either new buyers or original members, as only makes future group buys more difficult.
Peter
-
Matt
As you know I didn't go for this as I am pretty much skint at the moment, however if you are stuck with some I will gladly relieve you of one of each as I will need some if I ever get the car back together.
Alan
-
I will post up how many sets are available on Saturday morning, then it's a first come first serve on via the forum and also will be sold via eBay for a slightly higher price to cover eBay fees & PayPal fees.
I'm not asking folks to buy things they do not need or purchase just for the sake of it.
-
Matt
I am shocked by the behaviour of my fellow Beta owners on this considering the time trouble and effort you have gone to in order to help fellow owners this is just not acceptable. I know personal circumstances change and money is tight but basic decent behaviour would be to honour your commitments or in the case of genuine difficulty explain the situation.
As I already have and have paid for 2 sets for my 1 car I cannot pick up the extras unfortunately.
These parts were almost impossible to find in working order before you stepped up here so the people concerned will deserve the broken exhausts and shockingly random gear changes that lie ahead.
All the best with the move.
Eric
-
Just another thank you for doing this Matt. Like Simon I'm appalled at the prospect of you being out of pocket for devoting your time and money to this project. I'm sure that all the dampers will find a home eventually but that's not the point. It doesn't bode well for future group buys which will now have to be cash in advance!
-
Ditto Eric and Neil's views, always felt that commitments should be followed through. I for one would favour pre payment on any of these group deals, as the organiser then knows for real how many are and those not.
Matt, given the scarcity of the parts, I hope you are able to move them quickly especially as you are in the middle of a move.
All the best and thanks for organising it again.
Peter
-

Sadly after this, I suspect that's exactly what any of us will have to ask for if we look at group buys in future.
-
Yes it is sad if some are not prepared to follow through, but is it so unreasonable to ask for the money up front, after all no profit is being taken, so why should any extra risk be put on the organiser. Makes full sense to me.
Peter
-
What is the price for the set? It has changed a couple of times since the first anouncement. If any left maybe I will be interested for the future needs, as the pair in my beta is still in good condition.
-
Dear Matt, I am sorry to hear about the damper hassle etc, especially after all the hard work you have put in. I only did not order a set myself at the time because I was dealing with other "issues" with "Lulu".
However I am now dealing with all things suspension and if there is a spare set left over I would be delighted to have them. (I will pay you straight away).
Please be kind enough to let we know at the weekend.
All the best,
Chas and Anne. :)
-
I'm not asking folks to buy things they do not need or purchase just for the sake of it.
but we always need a little stash of spare parts! And seriously I really do need a pair I'd just been trying to avoid expenditure at this moment but given your predicament I must give in gracefully and buy a pair if they are going spare!
-
Matt
While on this subject I think it would be helpful to post the required modification to these parts; ie that all the bolt holes require enlarging to M10. Is this doable with a good hand drill or is a bench drill required?
-
Looking at a Group Buy on the two engine dampers.
Please specify in the following format:
n x Cam Belt side damper
n x Gearbox side damper
I will leave this open for a month, then once we have total numbers will start gathering up funds from folks, then purchase them and distribute them accordingly.
Modifying the bush eyes from M8 to M10 will have to be done by yourselves. (Done with a sharp 10mm drill and let the eye cool after 30 seconds of drilling)
Neil,
It was all posted up at the very beginning of this thread.
-
Thanks Matt, I'll buy a new drill bit just in case!
-
Matt
Did you get my PM as I am happy to take a pair
Richard
-
All,
In the interests of fairness I gave the current "No shows" until end of day today, I will confirm however many sets are available on Saturday morning.
I have the list of folks who are interested in taking the sets that have not been claimed/paid for.
A set ( 1 x gearbox side and 1 x Cam belt side) cost £87.70 in total. The group buy got them at £22.00 and £64.70 respectively.
Postage is not included in this, but UK Recorded Delivery was £3.65 for per set. Obviously if your outside the UK it's more and I have used Fedex European Economy courier so that the items are fully insured and trackable.
-
Dear Matt,
I hope you have sorted out the damper allocations now, and just to remind you that I would like a set if there are any left! If it is any easier I can pay via paypal for those (and the toolkit I bought yesterday) at the same time? Postage would then be easier as they could go together?
Best,
Chas and Anne. :)

Following notification on Tuesday that there were some "No Shows" the final number of damper sets that are now available is FIVE. I have tried to give these members advance notification, PM's, direct emails, a posting on this thread advising four days notice and still no response - so I personally I think I have been fair and given people ample opportunity to get in contact and make payment.
The following people have expressed an interest in purchasing the five sets.
Zagato - Richard
RossoCorsa - Alan
VXdeMayo - Chas
Rodney3010 - Rodney
Cheeky Monkey - Graham
I am looking to get this wrapped up fairly quickly as its dragged on and I'll be honest, events have kind of taken the shine off this endeavour.

Hi Matt
I know it has been somewhat disappointing, but I think you should take heart from those who did come through with their order and especially for those who stepped up to fill the hole and not leave you with an unexpected bundle to sell. This forum for me is still one of best I visit regularly, looking forward to putting some faces to names next year hopefully...

All "Spare" dampers have now been sold.
This ends this particular group buy.

Dear Matt and all,
Received dampers today, drilled out and cleaned up. Jobs a good un!
They are great. Make me realise how bad my one's actually were!
Well done and thanks Matt.
Best,
Chas. :)
-
You are lucky :)
Can anyone unveil the parts numbers? As far as I know they are of stabilus and febi make. Maybe I will dig and find any dampers here in Poland... Opel omega (vauxhall carlton?) 2.5V6 uses something similar.
-
If you want to order these for yourself you can do from the following sites:
Cam Belt side Engine Damper:
http://faparkes.epicoriscala.com/Default.aspx (http://faparkes.epicoriscala.com/Default.aspx)
FA Parkes Stock Code: 42787
Supplier stock code is: 2611YY
Use the Search facility and use the Supplier (Stabilus) Stock Code 2611YY as the criteria.
Gearbox side Engine Damper:
Use Ebay and search under item number: 250836085717
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-200-300-C-E-G300-DIESEL-ENGINE-BELT-DAMPER-/250836085717?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a66feebd5&_uhb=1#ht_2130wt_922 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-200-300-C-E-G300-DIESEL-ENGINE-BELT-DAMPER-/250836085717?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a66feebd5&_uhb=1#ht_2130wt_922)
-
Thank you Matt. Here you can see the damper from opel/vauxhall 2.5V6. Seems to be similar.
-
Yes, I looked at these but this only fits the gearbox side - and not sure of availability in UK (maybe Germany its better because Opel build cars there). All I could find was used Omega dampers and price was similar to a new Mercedes damper - so it was an easy decision.
I looked for a modern equivalent that we could buy off the shelf and make minimal modification to fit to a Beta.
-
I think you will find that the Vauxhall Part number is 90129493 but these are now listed as No Longer Supplied - but it may not be the correct part number, you really need to supply exact vehicle details if you can find a vehicle to take the details off eg chassis number ... and then take it from there
The equivalent Opel Part number is 6 84 452 ... but I do not know if they are still available in Europe
You may find one in one of the Obsolete Parts Specialists in Germany ... only to find it isn't the correct one!
