The gasket on the above needs changing as oil is weeping out. However when I removed the two big Allen bolts it wouldn't shift. Does anyone know the best way of shocking it off without breaking it?
Ironic that oil can leak past something that appears to be glued down solid!

They're often like that simply a case of perseverance I'm afraid but it will come off be due not to do it up too tight as the alloy bridge that supports the thread can crack

A gentil tap on the four "lugs" sometime helps.

Take the oil filler off, put a big screwdriver in and lever - carefully.
Sometimes a bit of pressure on the screwdriver and a tap from a hammer at the same time does the trick.

Thanks guys. I'm going to leave it until I get back from my big trip to Scotland next weekend now. Don't want any disasters before then.
I had thought of the big screwdriver down the oil filler hole, but wanted a but of reassurance that I wasn't being too brutal.
The four lugs is a good idea too, but they're harder to get at than on my earlier car.

A plastic head hammer on the 4 lugs from below usually does this one.

This is the obvious way to do it, but you can't get at them on a facelift engine in situ.

Another option is to insert a rod to the cover bolt opening then lever or tap it gently.
