While my Spider is some way from needing its respray I can at least now see my way to that point. So my thoughts turned to the colour.
I'll be honest, I've never been a great fan of white on any car but what to change it to? It strikes me as more of a subtle car so nothing too bright.
I'd like it to be a Lancia colour, and if not exactly period then at least from the 70s/80s. I was thinking about the smoky metallic grey I've seen on some HPE's and Deltas ( perhaps someone could help with the name? ) I thought that might look quite sleek on a pre-F/L car.

Thoughts?
(And yes I appreciate this is entirely subjective)

I'm not the best one to comment as I'd go for in your face colours like the yellow that was on S1 spiders!
-
The world is full of smokey metallic grey cars (like my Golf!). Be bold. You own a Lancia.
-
Nothing wrong with bright coloured cars I had an Acid green Seat not so long ago. They work especially we on smaller cars - DS3 Fiat 500 and the like - I just don't think it suits all of them.
That said if you were to go bold but not white what would you go for? Not yellow! A deep red might work.
-
Have you thought about rosso Brighton very unusual colour and an original spider colour too.
See here https://photos.app.goo.gl/7PFCYVFUxENH9Whw8
But I can't really capture the colour in a photo. I've not seen a spider in this colour for donkeys years it's an S2 pre facelift colour not to everyone's taste though, it's so long since I've seen one I'm not sure myself!
-
Interesting. I'm not sure I've ever seen one in that colour. I found a couple of auction pics though.
Page 11 of this http://www.funcar.cc/img/auctions/auktion2017/pdf-katalog-auktion-2017-wec.pdf (http://www.funcar.cc/img/auctions/auktion2017/pdf-katalog-auktion-2017-wec.pdf)
If you're as sad as me you'll enjoy looking through the whole auction catalogue. There's some real rarities in there and the little Fiat Vignale is achingly pretty.
I get the impression it's one of those colours that looks very different in the flesh.
Edit: better picture found of the same car - catalogue is still worth a look though

Hi
Yep like that colour. As said before way too many grey cars around.

How about the S1 Montecarlo powder (light) blue? There was of course Minty Toothpaste Green (not recommended) or the excellent mid green metallic that looked amazing with the brown interior on S1 Montecarlos.
Sorry I have no pictures to hand. My S2 is being painted in the sky blue metallic OE colour. Currently half painted, but hopefully soon finally painted.
Cheers
Eric
PS I think a dark colour does NOT suit them
-
Hmm, boring or not I think it really suits

I agree with Eric - a light colour works best, the exception being a strong red (it is Italian, after all). My pet hate is brown (apologies to any brown Beta owners).

None taken.

They did a rather nice green metallic in a similar tone on the series 4 cars (after spider production stopped)

Gulp. Sorry...

Alfa Blue Lightening. I was quite taken with it. Almost a metallic version of Lancia Blue
-
It looks a couple of shades lighter than Lancia blue. Similar to another well known Spider?
-
Having looked at it for a couple of days I think it's slightly too modern. I've two more 'Blu' shades to try and also an Alfa Burgundy
Which other spider is that ?
-
My Alfa spider is this colour. It is called Rosso Brunello !17/B
Sorry for the “trailer” shot! It was just being moved ;)
-
Incidentally, there is an almost identical Lancia colour - Bordeaux Tintoretto 175/A.
Slightly less pop to the metallic - more classic, maybe?

Nice Ph.3 - JTS or V6?
That's one of the colours I'm trying! I found the Lancia Rosso Brighton a little too brown

The one on the Betaboyz stand a couple of years ago. Big alloys. Terry??

'car colour' what a great decision you have to make,
I know it's subjective ..but I personally think that there's an 'optimum' colour for every model of every make out there, and lots of choices in between,
I once did a print campaign for Standox based on this idea but anyway..
I've got a late model Light Silver HPE and though this is probably a common colour for this model I think that it shows it's form beautifully ( has lots of depth )
and I find when we're out in it I'm 'always' taking photos of it in different light. ( while the family go on ;)
however if I had a pre-facelift Spider I'd be tempted to go for a 70's flat colour, powder blue, brown, light yellow or green etc ..rather than a metallic grey.
Those cars make a statement.
( For what it's worth, and if it were me ;)

3.2 V6 :)

No one else has said it yet, so I will. If it left the factory in white, repaint it in white. Originality is important and in years to come a quality job will pay dividends.
Just my opinion of course...

It's a point of view but if I were too concerned with originality I wouldn't have it on throttle bodies or be putting in a bulkhead for power steering! Fair comment on originality and value but with the amount of work going into this car selling it will be when I'm too old to drive it.
Since I really don't like the way any white cars look that's the one colour it won't be. At the moment I'm 75% a dark blue and 25% a burgundy of some sort More paint tests at the weekend.
