Title: Front brake caliper "Parting piece" snap ring specification
Post by: JASPER_40 on June 03, 2025, 11:08:41 AM
Hi Everyone,

I have been struggling with spongy brake pedal issues for some time and decided to re-build the front brakes as a shot to nothing simply because as I had the seal kits. Upon removal of the front circuit piston from the caliper body , I found that the circlip or snap ring that holds the "parting piece" was actually not installed. A bad mistake by a previous owners rebuild which could be the cause of the spongy pedal with longer than expected pedal travel ?

Anyway, does anyone know what this snap ring looks like or better still has one that you can measure to that I can source. Not sure if it is supposed to be round section or square and also how you specify the required snap ring dimentions to fit.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

P.S. The included Pic shows the caliper body and the circular parting piece which, when installed sits inside the body on the ledge and just clears the bleed port hole. The groove to accommodate the snap ring sites in the groove just below the bleed port.

Morning from the UK, I guess this answers my question 'did you ever fix the spongy brakes?'  I was reading your three page saga last night.  I will go back and reply to that thread
