Title: Does the Beta Spyder modelyear 1978 have preparation for front foglights?
Post by: sleurhut on July 05, 2025, 08:11:31 PM
Hello everyone,

I recently acquired some 1970 NOS carello yellow foglights, intention is to fit them to the Spyder. Sometimes cars from other brands like alfa etc did have the cabling allready installed or a plugged of connector to hook them up to. So before i start routing some wires for them and fitting a switch to the dash.... is this also a thing for the beta spyder?

Greetings,

Sleurhut.

Hi

I was not aware of any Beta having wiring for front fog lights. Happy to be contradicted.

I've had two 1978 spiders. Neither had any provision for front fog lights. Easy enough to wire up though.

S2 & S3 Beta Coupes and Beta Spyders have Fog light wiring provision front and rear. I have installed them on my Beta Spyder where I am using a Loom from a Beta VX. I even found an original switch (rare as rocking Horse Poo). Rear Fog light switches work for the front just as well and are common. I am far from the car right now. However look at Members Cars under my name for photos.

i just looked your car up, very nice build! When the rain stops i will pull the car out of the garage to investigate a bit more if i got the provision. Checked the haynes manual diagrams but neither show this provision.

Took a while but finally got time to pull her out of the garage. Found these extra sealed off wires. Might this be provision?

Wire color is yellow for the righthand side and green for the driverside. I do have 2 unmarked unused switches. but when switching them all 'on' i dont have battery voltage on these wires. Maybe there is a relais missing or fuse? cant find a missing on in the box.

Hi

Sorry, it is green for left and yellow/black for right and goes to a relay labelled 30 and switch 128 in the drawing.

spent some time trying to get it working. checken the fusebox but there is no relais in that position, fitted one and put the lowbeams on. tried the 3 unmarked switches in the top part of the dashboard cluster but no voltage on the 2 leads. pulled the switches to check if the colorcoding on the wires corresponds with the schematics. No switch has the 2x yellow 1x grey wiring. pulled the top part of the radiocluster to check if the connector had fallen down or was never routed right, did not find it. I will try the bottom part behind the gearlever tomorrow, maybe it is situated behind there. Otherwise will have to pull new wiring for the foglight  :'(.

Did make some stainless brackets and mounted them up to the car,

Love the look, fills in the empty part under the bumper just right.

If the wiring is there it's probably in the relay socket? There will be a switched power feed from the battery to the foglights and a control circuit from the battery, through the switch to earth? Identify the relay socket first and check continuity to the foglights you've fitted first (just runa power cable from the battery to the correct terminal where the relay should fit. Then check the other terminals in the block for power and earths with the switch in the on position. You may need to add a fuse to the fusebox if a circuit isn't live?
