Title: Carello 522 outer headlight
Post by: JohnFol on August 10, 2025, 06:33:13 PM
Hi all, my outer headlight has a crack in the lens so sourced a replacement. Photo shows old and new from the back and it's clear the mount is different (old still has bulb fitted).

Before I do any modifications, am I damaging something that's hard to find and am better off waiting for the right mounts?

Anything of use? I need to dig the lights out and see which set I sold....

The one with the plastic mounts will be from an HPE with self leveling or a different Italian car altogether. The joys and complexities of lancia parts. Siem, without self leveling, also have similar mountings so different backing plates. If you aren't too fussy about originality it's not too difficult to get spurious generic lights that will fit the carello backing plates. It is going to become very difficult to keep to the original lights in the future especially for RHD.

Hi

I have to agree. The good news is that the fixed lights you have mean that you can get a new set for pretty much the same price as trying to get a single old original with relatively minor mods if any to the mounts. Those adjustable ones are really hard to find, I tried on my HPE and ended up having the bowls resilvered which is a pain and expensive.

So it sounds like I have bought an adjustable one and for the greater good I ought not take an angle grinder to the mounts . . . .

I can't match the number on the back of my reflector to anything in the link Guy shared or online. I've also removed the other H4 and there's no marking whatsoever. Bit stuck on what the correct part number is that I should be looking for

Hi John

Are there any numbers on the lens itself rather than the back?
