Title: Cup Holder
Post by: peteracs on February 01, 2026, 02:41:19 PM
Hi

Following on from the phone holder the other main item which is missing on the car are cup holders, not a thing back in the 70s as I remember, but I really missed having one on my way back from France this year, so starting with one designed for a Capri of all things and after several iterations I came up with this to sit just forward of the gear stick. Not had chance to check with it in the Spider, but hopefully will fit no problems.

Wonderful Invention Peter. I was heading for using Cycle Bottle holders 1 either side of the center console. I do like a drink reachable in my cars as does my needy passenger so I fitted fold down holders on the Monte door cards.

Thanks all, tried a test fit on the Spider today and bit of a fail in that the heater box comes out further than I had imagined (Spider is stored away from my house, so have to make special trip). The good news is that all is not lost and a rejig as the cups will need to be at a slight angle to clear the heater which should hopefully not pose too much trouble.

Hi

Well this ended being a significant rabbit hole to end up with a solution to the cup holder, not something I had anticipated originally as I thought a quick modification to an existing design would work and all would be good with world.

Sadly as the holder had to be angled this entailed modifying the top cover and designing an angled support for the original design which then needed to be fastened to the base of the centre console. The angled support ended up with standoffs which locate in the screw holes of the main holder base so it is removable. In order to fix it to the base of the centre console I drilled a 8mm hole and ended up making an elongated screw rivet to fasten the ramp section to the console. All very interesting to do, but took ages and several iterations to get right. I learnt a lot on the process, but part of me wishes I had not started......
