Title: Bolts.. again I guess
Post by: Ghibli on March 07, 2026, 09:21:26 AM
Hi! Just swapped from original steelwheels to Cromodoras on my HPE. With the original spacer in front, the bolts seemed too short, as the only go on the first maybe 2-3 laps. Got some longer bolts, about a cm longer, that seems to fit - but it doesn't feel 100% correct. What do you guys use on alloys on the HPE?

Hi

In what way not correct?

I think Cromodora alloy wheels need a rounded shouldered bolt not a straight angle

Hi Tim

Just checked the Cromodora I have here and that uses the normal angled bolts, ie simple conical insert in them (this is a mag wheel with steel inserts... not the normal alloy one), but do not think the alloy ones would be any different.

Ghibli,
There should be at least the same amount of thread in the hub as is
the width of the bolt.
So you are looking at around 12mm of working thread in the hub.
Use a dark grease, say copa-slip, sparingly, to use as a witness mark to test the depth.

Thank you for all good input! I was curious to know what you all used, since the wheels are quite common, and the orginal bolts for the steelwheels are obviously to short for the Cromodoras
I have tried with the ones in the pic attached, (original on the left)  but I think it might be the cone that makes the bolts feel odd when pulling them. It is as if there is no distinct end. The threaded lenght seems ok though, about 12-13 mm working thread.
