Title: Oil filter fitment
Post by: deks on May 13, 2026, 03:07:59 PM
Currently doing oil change on the HPE ie
Oil and filter purchased from Opie oils using registration no of car
The filter on the right is the new supplied one.
The one on the left I have checked the part number and GSF says it’s not right for the car

The new smaller one seems to fit as it should. I can’t run it yet as waiting on the spark plugs to arrive and new V belts

What’s other thoughts please

Steve,
Rightly or wrongly I've used all sorts of makes and sizes of filters on my car,
and none have ever given issues. The mount is a fairly universal fitting
used on many makes of vehicles.
In my case I'm limited for space as the filter is sitting almost horizontal.
I use the Mann W914/2 as commonly fitted to the VX engines as its got a wide but short
body.
Yours is probably more vertical so offering a bit more space.
What I don't know is whether internal valves are vital, perhaps more so dependant
on the orientation of the filter.

N.

Thanks for info Nigel.  I feel the one I have fitted is better than the non descript one I ve removed. the new one is a Bosch. there was some kind of plastic plug/stop half way down the centre.

Hopefully the spark plugs arrive tomorrow so I can fire it up and see if all is well. It looks to fit on the base in the right places and the rubber seal on both was in the same place.

Alls well with the filter. No leaks from it or anywhere else it seems at present.
Now to read up on understanding the gauges like oil pressure etc
