Hi Guys,
I was thinking of renewing the engine mounts as there is a bit of vibration at idle and so far have found that the engine stabiliser rod (dog bone) has completely failed on both ends and so new PU bushes in the post. However, in the 2 years of ownership, I have never noticed the engine mount on the RHS beneath the crank pulley ...until now !!!!
It looks to me like a PO has fitted an inadequate and non-standard mount or more likely made a shockingly poor attempt at fabricating one. It obviously works, of a fashion, but the outer side of the rubber mount is missing altogether...whaaaaat !
I suspect that this and the dog bone may explain the vibrations....You think ?
1st photo is the part of the mount on the inner side of the subframe
2nd photo is the part of the mount, or lack of, on the outer
I fully accept that you pay your money and you takes your chance but just goes to show that 45 years and several owners, there are bound to be some short cuts to save money.
I will eat my words if anyone out there tells me this is a recognised alternative solution for an engine mount though.
Cheers,
Steve
PS Yes, I am ashamed and embarrased that I have not spotted this before now.
PPS The engine damper bushing also appears to have failed and a repair attempted with some kind of filler.

Hi
Well it is supporting the engine......
Definitely would look to replace with original style.
On the dampers for the engine and gearbox, there are threads on here where alternatives have been used as originals are no longer available I understand. My Spider does not have them (no provision on body) and tbh I do not notice an issue.

Yep 100% replacing the engine mount urgently…. Quite costly though…. Hence the bodge.
As for the damper, I am going to print some new bushings using polyurethane 95A. Very easy fix
Cheers

Hi
On the damper does it still work ok?
Peter

Yeah true ….wont know until I remove them. I really hope so as this car is a real money pit and these dampers are a hell of a price if you can even find them new. Used ones are a bit of a gamble I guess.

Check out previous thread on alternatives. I had a couple from Matt many years ago which he sourced from non Lancia cars and were not so expensive. I think there was a more recent post as well referring to other alternatives.

Peter , you were absolutely right.
I took the dampers off today and both sides offer no resistance at all as well as both bottom bushings being rotten. I have been searching for new or used ones and some places listed them for sale them but all were "not in stock"
I did look at the threads from Matt and it seems that I may be able to get the Crank end one but am still struggling with the gearbox end.
The group buy the Matt did was over 10 years ago and seemed very popular. Could be that Mark W took up where Matt left off but is currently out of stock also.
I will reach out to the Betaboys to look for a lead.
Cheers,
Steve
