I've just got my engine and gearbox back in and the gear linkage adjustment is driving me mad. It seems no matter where I have the adjustment of the front rod I just cannot get enough side to side movement to get 5th and reverse. The problem is when I dropped the subframe with the engine it got a bit out of control and I'm not sure if anything got bent or strained, on top of that I had the gearlever out to put a slight bend in it (bring it closer to me) and when I was reassembling it was in a bit of doubt about the order of parts. I've taken some pictures of where I think the problem might be but of course no idea how to post them.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

The easiest way to attach pictures is to host them on a site like Flickr and then post the links here. The links will look something like {IMG} link here {/IMG} except with square brackets not curly. YOu can also use the 'Attachments and other options' button below the message box.

Re: photo att. I use my iPhone mail app to send photo's to myself and it gives me the option to make smaller (which you need to do most likely) and then edit-rotate 90-save and do it again rotating straight again and this stops the photo's being squished
Re: gear change - I replaced all the bushes (baring to bell-crank bush under the rack, as at the time I couldn't get to it) and I found the same as you. I found a really old post on this site that suggested a couple washers in the front left side of the gear change mounting, inside the car (under the heater). and bingo it did the trick. Since then I have replaced the final bush, and have a spare if you need it shout. Now everything is all good. Best thing about my car is the gear shift :-)
Oh PS I also did Betaboys quick shift conversion

This is the first chance I've had to reply. I have got all the gears now but I do suspect that something got either strained or bent as I've got the front rod on the shortest adjustment It has and I have replaced the cross rod with Mark's replacement but I've had to adjust the length about 3mm longer. It now changes with a real positive movement compared to the original.
Thanks for the advice/suggestions.
