Title: Non -starter for 10
Post by: Betared on August 20, 2026, 10:19:57 AM
Hopefully the forum can save my sanity. The main problem is non starting of my Beta 2000,1984 with electronic ignition.
I have fuel supply to the carb and the return to tank is clear. When I crank the engine with my strobe light connected to each plug in turn it flashes, indicating a spark? Two things which may be related while I have been checking are the ignition light has disappeared at swith on and there is no 12v supply to the shut off solenoid valve, I have rigged up a temp. supply from the battery to keep valve open.Where does the supply to this connection originate? Any thoughts anyone.
David.

Stuck needle valve? Take air cleaner off and look int carb and rapidly operate the throttle by hand you should see jets of fuel from the accelerator pump if fuel is in carb. However your lights situation suggests something else and not sure what that could be.

Hi

First check all fuses, sounds like either fuse or you have an ignition barrel issue if you do not have the dash light. The wiring diagrams in the downloads section should hopefully be able to help you trace it through.

Odd if you have fuel and spark however it does not at least try to fire, though pumping the accelerator a few times should give you enough fuel via the accelerator pump in the carb to do something.

I am inclined to be with Peter on this. I have a dodgy ignition barrel on my HPE which has had some kind of wiring modification to a switch which I have to use at times to give a feed to ignition lights in order for the car to start. I have a new ignition barrel to fit but I need to understand the wiring modification first which apparently is on a forum somewhere as the person i got the car from advised me this is where he copied it from to install as I want to undo that.

Hi David,
Have you put the engine at TDC and then checked the position of the rotor arm?
It must point to lead #4.
If not, swop leads around or better, remove distributor and turn it to point
correctly.
