Gear linkage problem.
« on: January 05, 2013, 10:19:57 PM »
Now that I've sorted a couple of runnning issues I had with my 2000ie coupe, I had it out on a good run today, and the gear selection/throw of the gearstick seems to be heavy and stiff.  I don't have any problem selecting the gears...would this problem be down to lubrication or worn components?

Any thoughts?

Worn linkage bushes most likely, when they are worn it makes the gear change knotchy.

LanciaBetaParts sell them, you'll need 3 in total.  It's an awkward job!!

Thanks for that...had a wee eyeball today, does look an awkward job.  Does the rod extract from the front or from underneath? and is it a case of changing the bushes on the rod at the bench?

My shopping list for parts is starting to get longer.

It can be done with everything in situ, but its awkward, there's no way to sugar coat it :(

There are some instruction that come with the new bushes and there are a few folk on here that have done it and posted up some tips.

It's awkward because you have to go at it from underneath and not many folk have a ramp!

Hi, just a thought , if you are happy the bushing are poor , fine , but have a look at the engine and gearbox mountings , I have  a similar problem ,   while I have yet to replace the the mounts I have been able to get a big ( temporary) improvement by adjusting the gear linkage set up.
