Headlights...
« on: December 12, 2025, 06:47:20 PM »
Whilst on the floor at the front of the car last night I noticed that the headlight surrounds x4 have been made from something else and cut and shut.

Questions: are the surrounds all the same?  Are these the right ones?  and 'clips' are these the right ones I need?

As per usual I dont want to strip it down without having some replacement parts ready

I think there is a difference between light units with Siem and Carello lamps. But I'd need to find a pair for comparison!

Skoda Superb Scout 2021. Believed 1of 1 in the UK!

From experience I don’t think you can mix Siem and CARELLO headlights. I think the mounting points are different for a start?

Hi Mark

Firstly the two parts you show are from different headlight systems. The ring is from a Carello light fixing and the plastic clip is from a Siem one. Both are from the individual light setup as opposed to the combined one found on some of the cars.

So on to how to establish which is which as often the main bowls may have been swapped out on the Carello lights, though not on the Siem as the fixings are pretty unique I think.

The Carello lights consist of a backplate attached to the main body of the car, and then the light bowls are attached to a metal outer bowl which then attaches to the backplate and has a tensioning spring and a couple of adjuster bolts. The Siem system is much simpler and has just the backplate and the light bowl uses the 3 of the clips above to locate one in the backplate and two adjuster bolts.

The outer ring for the light bowl on the Siem lights simply has bent tabs to hold it in place on the light bowl, the Carello one uses the tabs with holes  at 90 degrees to the rim to screw to the metal backplate. On my Spider the outer rings are from a different car/supplier and had been modified to fit.

Hope that makes sense.....

Peter

The SIEM units normally have stainless clip on trims whilst Carello are normally Chrome plated and rust. Of course the SIEM trims do not rust, but do not easily go on the Carello lights! All are rocking horse poo rare especially the RHD dip beam units with curved lenses. Hella flat front units are available and can be fitted into the more versatile Carello assembly.

Beware Dip Beam lights from Italy which are LHD. The main beam units are of course the same.
