Heater outlet on Cylinder Head
« on: July 04, 2024, 05:23:43 PM »
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if  the outlet above no 4 cylinder that feeds the heater is removeable?  I cant any sign of a thread.  Is it pressed in?

Thanks

You do not want to remove it. You should use an H section to protect your head gasket when the heater is turned off. Lack of flow at number 4 sold a lot of head gasket replacements and FL added this flow mod on IE and VX. It has been covered on here many times.

Thanks, I dont want to remove it but I have a spare head which has this outlet pinched together and braised over.  I'd quite like to use the head hence my enquiry.

It is screwed in. But it’s difficult to remove without damaging, as you’re looking to remove an already damaged pipe you can try welding a nut onto it and unscrew.

As the pipe is steel and the head aluminium, I would guess that corrosion between the two has set in and unscrewing would most likely damage the softer material ie head which is not what you are looking for.

If you are after a spare head, I have one or two going spare….
