Running out of fuel when fast cornering
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:54:25 PM »
Dear Friends

I would like to wish Merry Christmas to you all.
I am facing a problem with my 2ltr Beta.
I set up the car with BetaBoyz springs and bushes and Spax units. It turns really good as I am also using the Toyo 888 tyres. (Perfect for track days)
My only problem is that I am running out of fuel in case of fast cornering.
As far as I have checked it has nothing to do with the fuel tank as most of times it was filled up.
I am using the standard fuel pump and the Weber DATR 34, Bosch Electronic unit.
Are there any ideas ?

Could the float be sticking inside the float chamber of the carb?

If it only happens in fast corners then maybe the float hits the side of the chamber and sticks?

Does it happen immediately when you enter a fast corner or does it happen a short while after? So on entering the corner its fine but when you hit the apex of the corner you problem starts?

Dear Matt,
As far as I remember it happens a short while after turning....(mostly on left turns)
I have tried not to push the pedal too hard and it seems that the situation is improved somehow…..

Which perhaps, suggests a lack of fuel running through the carb? You might need to fit a swirl pot somewhere in the system to maintain a constant supply of fuel while cornering. I havn't had this problem yet (suprisingly) but I think the tanks got bafffles inside on an IE and the electric pump seems to do the job. Good luck.

I would suggest checking float level and needle valve, then purchase an
electric pump supplying 7 psi and then a pressure regulator set to 3.5 psi
(optimum pressure for a weber)

Many thanks to you all.
I had the same opinion regarding the electrical pump c/w regulator.
I will try this on and get back to you with the results.
Wishes for a happy new year…….
