Steering column movement

Has anyone got a drawing or schematic sketch of the steering column for a Beta 2FL Snyder?
I have up and down movement on the steering wheel. I have checked the 4 retaining bolts that secure the clamping mechanism to the dashboard cross member. The splines on the steering box and universal joint above the pedal box are home and secure.
This brings me back to the column part where the steering lock is located. I haven't taken it apart yet but I need to know if there is a set of bearings in there and if so what are the dimension of the bearings etc.
Are these columns repairable, has anyone had a similar problem?

Is the height adjustment lever faulty, or not properly locked down?

Hi Neil
The adjuster and clamp are secure and working well. I have tightened the clamp up slightly.
There appears to be a polyurethane bush that I can see daylight through. But cannot see at this stage if I can replace it. That is why I need a sketch or drawing before I dismantle the column.

There is a bearing somewhere in the column, I'll post some info later

Column had two bearings items 5 on diagram part number 4216566 I believe these are common with some fiats. Not sure of it's the same on all series this is from s2 fl parts book but only covers early fl cars, if you find that these bearings are indeed worn post again and I'll check the microfiche to be sure of the part number

Those bearings are a quite simple construction it may be possible that simply cleaning and repacking them with grease will help a little

They are simple loose bearings inside so if the casings are not damaged cycle bearings or some loose bearings from any industrial bearing supplier and some grease will sort them out. I did mine last year.

I had faced the same problem. Tha cause was lacking of the retaining spring (seger clip) at the bottom that holds the lower bearing set.
I realized it when I stripped a spare column and compared with the one with play. I installed it and since then is okay.
