Dam, missed it...
« on: March 24, 2025, 04:44:50 PM »
So I am about a few months off about seriously looking for a Beta Coupe Vx.

I came across a SA based one a few months back but at the time I got the impression it was going to be too expensive for my pockets at the time.  Then bam on Instagram there it was and it was well inside of budget.  Long story short after lots on videos and questions of Friday night I missed it.

What this has done is solidified I want a Beta Coupe VX!  This has made me really think about this whole process, and how serious I am.  I am!

Lancia Beta Coupe VX - Why?  I know them well and had four Beta's BitD (a modified HPE and a few saloons).  I had had engines/gboxes out, I rebuilt one, I did the timing and clutches etc, I have completely been through sorting out the rust (fast and no perfection bitd) so know where to look.  Brakes, suspension interior I know them well.  I hear from reviews they still drive well in comparison to modern traffic.  If I struggle to find one maybe a Lancia Montercarlo - I know the mechanicals, like the cars.  A few more of them about maybe?

I get the impression looking at old auction sites that a lot seem to do the rounds from auction to auction.

Garage - My garage is tiny and is currently full of bikes.  I have a plan for the bikes to bring them together with my workshop in the garden next Spring into a massive workshop in the garden.  My garage is small as I said.  It was possibly built for an Austin 7 as its a 1935 house, and not even sure a Beta Coupe would even fit.

I have a few elderly neighbours who dont have cars I am going to talk to and see if they would be up for renting one to me.  Options: down the side of my garage/house under a leantoo?  I dont like this longterm.  I could extend the garage out sideway?  I keep thinking about this, its doable in a few years, but will need to convince my wife that it should never be converted to an office :-)

So create a hard standing on the lawn for the summer, not ideal again, outside will okay until I find a garage.  We are not moving for a while due to kids at school etc.  So I have to make the most of it.

So back to my search... my SA contact is going to go look for another rust free one over there, but in the meantime if anyone comes across one please let me know.

Same happened with me during Covid! Not with a VX but an automatic RHD one owner, very low mileage car in Turin. By the time I'd worked out how to get it home someone beat me to it, by a few hours. It is in the UK now I believe. Simple job to convert to manual....

I thought I'd seen another VX on Facebook in SA recently. Can't find it now but will keep looking, have you contacted Felix Furtak at Lancia Parts SA? He may know of something suitable?
