Any appetite for variable intermittent wiper relay?
« on: September 18, 2025, 04:08:23 PM »
Hi

I just wondered if anyone would be interested in having a replacement unit/relay to allow variable intermittent wipe as opposed to the original fixed period?

I am having a play with building one and was gauging the interest as it entails having a PCB made etc if building a batch of them. One debate is whether to use reuse the original metal can, ie replace the original or go for a new case all together.

My thoughts on varying it would be to use a variable resistor (pot) which you could mount on the dash somewhere convenient.

Any thoughts on it would be welcome!

One side note. I had played with a fixed duration delay relay previously and managed to get it to work, but realise that it was more by luck and it is not really suitable as a replacement as I now understand how the relay should function. IE I have not found a suitable off the shelf relay which is suitable for our wiper motors.

Peter.

Just a thought but I seem to remember the Fiat 124 Sport Coupe had a variable pot mounted on the dashboard? A black round turn knob with wiper logo on the front?
I maybe mistaken but that could provide a period correct looking pot and be of the same lineage?
Of course there won’t be many left now but……

Hi Guy

Thanks, there appear to be various new 'knobs' with wiper legends on, mostly for switching on/off, but hoping to find one which I can switch over to a pot. I would like to use new parts for this as using old pots can be hit/miss on reliability and the shafts are usually standard sizes.

Thanks Chas for suggesting it as would make it a more complete solution.
