Factory alternator mounting?
« on: November 12, 2025, 08:38:08 PM »
Hi,
Something I've not seen before, a seemingly factory rear mounted
alternator. This car has push button air-con, probably also factory.
This is on a VX Coupe for sale in Italy, Facebook ad.

I wonder what the lower mounting bracket looks like? And what it's hung off too. I can only think it's a bracket fabricated to be attached to the cam tower somehow? The tensioner bracket also as if it's had a repair too. With the aircon compressor and power steering pump at the front fighting for space with the supercharger I guess you're out of options where to put the alternator and that's the only spot!

Indeed Guy.
My colleague Phil fitted a factory a/c kit to an almost new LHD 81 HPE (with PS) and in this case
the alternator was hanging in the inner wing on a huge set of bracketry, spinning in
the opposite direction. The car was with us for over a week.
Owner was from Andorra, racked up huge mileage, always
brought it to us in Etchinghill, Kent for servicing.
