Which is which?
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:18:10 PM »
Hey all, my 1977 Beta coupe ( Australian delivered) has one Carello headlight and one Siem. Which is the correct one? It's got the interim one-piece glass headlamp covers.
Cheers!

Carello is the correct one for the coupes & spiders. Siems were fitted to the HPEs with height adjustment. The lenses are interchangable so it's possible you might have a Carello lamp with a Siem lens.

Cheers HF, what would I do without you guys!
So all I need now is a replacement Carello for the Siem I have.
Anyone wanna trade?
They seem to be quite plentiful, and reasonably priced too, the Carello's seem rare and expensive.
What a shock!

There was a guy on eBay Au selling them new. Sadly they were AUD300+

They do come up on occasion but be prepared to wait. I do have spare Siem lenses if you want to switch out the Carelo one so you have a matched pair for the time being.

If you do find the right one make sure it's for right hand drive - most of them not surprisingly are for LHD and the sellers often don't know. I've even got a yellow french version somewhere!

Cheers HF, upon closer inspection of the Siem, it looks "handed", or at least not symmetrical.
How do I tell which is for which side of the car (or indeed which is suitable for left and right hand drive!)
I will probably run with the Siem for now as they seem more plentiful, but I obviously need the right ones for Australia, and indeed the correct sides of the car!

If you take a couple of pictures of the lamp you wish to replace and post them I might be able to help. I have a couple of good condition Carello lense units complete with decent chrome surrounds that I bought in error for our HPE. If you post both a good front picture showing lense pattern, and a good full rear picture showing ball mount positions relative to the top, then we can see exactly what you need. I would agree that lamp lenses are a bit of a minefield!
Best,
Chas, :)

Thanks Chas, I'll do just that. My Carello is in bits, but I'll bodge it back together for some pics.

Here are the culprits, first the Siem, then the Carello.

Thanks for the photos. Unfortunetly I thought you had separate light lense units, so i cannot help with this one!
Anybody else?

Chas. ::)
