Timing gear cover
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:25:21 PM »
My engine timing gear does not have any covering from the head side, just the outer plastic cover. I used to have a fiat 131 2.0, and its timing gear was covered from all around, also from the mentioned head side with two part pressed steel sheet elements. Looking through spare parts catalogues, i.e. microfiches, it seems that there was no factory covers in betas. Am I right?

Lukas,

You are correct, the Beta did not have any covering on the cylinder head side - only the the yellow cover on the outside, it was never "fully enclosed".
(On series 1 cars the yellow cover was made of aluminium).

And the aluminium yellow cover was not yellow (sorry Matt, could not resist it....) and was also fitted to some early Series 2 (at least it is on mine). I think the aluminium will only fit the non 2000 engines as I think it is taller.

Maybe it is worth upgrading, but fiat 131s are probably todays even more rare than the betas ;)
The cover I mentioned looks that:
