Lubricating/greasing linkage ball joints and bushings ?
« on: September 14, 2013, 10:01:05 AM »
Is there a way of dismantling and greasing the linkage points on my spider's gear change mechanism?
The rubber covers have cracked and split on some of them so it's only a mater of time before they die.
I'm reluctantto just start popping them apart as I feel it might end badly so any advice would be welcome.
Also I find I have to use a little force when moving the gear lever laterally to select fifth as in it feels like it has come to the end of its travel just before the forward stroke to engage the gear can be performed.
How difficult is this to adjust?
I had a bad experience with a Mitsubishi linkage a number of years ago and am reluctant to fool around unguided by someone's experience.
Thanks.

I dismantled the balljoints, cleaned them then lubricated and reassembled with no problems. Now works just fine. The bushings are quite elastic so if you do it carefully you will not destroy the elements.

Hi lukasdeopalenica,

did you do it with the gear change mechanism in the car? Or did you get it out first?
I`m planning the same procedure and would prefer to keep it all built in.
I will change the gear linkage bushes too as they are broken.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
surely I had removed the mechanism out of the engine bay first. It is just much easier.
