New Member - New Coupe Project

Good morning

I have been a longtime Lancia-lover searching for a Scorpion and Coupe.   I recently came across this project car and think that I may have paid too much.   I am not much of a proponent of "parting out" cars and rather see them restored.  I'm still not sure what I am going to do with it as it requires a ton of work and money to restore back to original, far more than what it would worth.  Maybe keep everything original but swap the engine and make it into a track or pro touring car?

Anyway, I am a member of the DeLorean forum / community and they are extremely helpful and forthcoming and I have heard the same about Lancia owners so I am very excited to a part of this Lancia family.

Also, I am curious as to what people think the non-running car I purchased is worth in US/American dollars.  I don't want to influence anyone and rather people are bluntly honest so I will post what I paid after hearing from other.   Your candidness is much appreciated.

Hi Jason

Welcome to the forum, looks like a ton of work sadly, but it also looks like a pretty early car. I assume 1800 as I think most/all US cars were that capacity. Obviously missing a few parts, but nothing that you will not be able to find given time and not too much money hopefully (replacement outer panels may be a problem depending on what you find you need). Make sure you check the inner wings and rockers for rust as they are the real killers which need addressing before you go any further.

As to value, no idea on US pricing, hopefully one of the US based guys will be able to answer. Over here it would probably be sub £1000, though they have increased over the recent year for this kind of car.

Hi Jason and welcome.

I'd be interested to know the chassis number of that - it does look early and the older they are the more interesting they are (IMHO) and certainly the more worth keeping. I agree it's likely to be an 1800 so you've either got an early 2nd series or (if you're very lucky) a 1st series.

I'd be tempted to de-US it. So fit euro spec bumpers and lose the emissions junk from the engine. I don't think I'd look to modify unless it was really bad.

Maybe a touch more than £1000? £1,250 or $1,500. As with Peter I'm not really up with US prices and that's going to be a pretty rare beast on US roads

Is there a different # on the chassis?

Doesn't seem to be a lot of US support for these cars...I appreciate all your input.

Ideally if the body is in restorable condition I will bring her back to original.

Like the idea of the euro parts too.

There is another 1800 locally that does not run (needs complete engine rebuild only due to sitting since 1991). Original owner been sitting in the garage since 1991 so the body is in excellent condition.  The interior needs replacing.

Seller is asking $4800 dollars but will probably take $3500.  Sounds too expensive as I have seen running and driving Beta coupes go for the same price.

You've lucked out  - that's a 1975 1st series car. Very rare and worth saving if at all possible. Others on here may have more detail but as far as I know that's one of only about 3,700 1st series coupes exported to the USA. How many are left - no idea but I'm betting not many.

That VIN shows it is a S1 Coupe, the AC bit which does make it worth restoring as cannot be many left in US as pretty rare all round. That also begs the question if it should be restored to original spec, but that is a personal decision. I am with Stuart in going for a more EU spec for the extra power and better looks.

I live in the New England area, just on the border of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

I paid $950 plus $450 for shipping for my car.

My friend is looking at VIN/Chassis #828AC1604980 being sold by the 2nd owner who purchased it back in 1983.   The seller wants $4000.  See the photos below

Jason, guessing that may be top end price for it, but as mentioned you will not find many of that vintage. At the end of the day you will end up spending a whole lot more getting it on the road and to reasonable state, so best of luck with it!

You could also register with lancisti.net forum as well as that is mainly US oriented, large amount of traffic on Fulvias, but has a reasonable number of Beta guys, a number who are on here as well.

Unfortunately there is a lot of rust on the rockers and the floor.

Fortunately the history of the car is good.  One owner (Italian gentleman) from New York.

Still unsure as what to do with her.

The seller has come down to $2500 on the price of the non-running brown Lancia...tempting!   Any thoughts.

Do it!!! You'll never regret owning a Lancia even if you spend too much & waste cash on restoration you'll never recoupe 👍😀
