Hi Eric

I was amused you did not even get on to the possible supercharger issues……

I can only agree with you, take a risk on a £100 engine, you only waste time, but £3k is just plain asking to waste money unless you have the full build details and can therefore make a decision.

Much better to put that money to a rebuild of something you know or can see working.

Haha yes - I had already spotted that engine and was looking at it with a jaundiced eye!

I would never buy a "rebuilt" engine from some random person on Ebay don't worry - I am too old and have made far too many painful mistakes in the past to consider that as an option.
Also, I'd prefer to keep the car fairly original, apart from some extra power if possible and uprated brake components / bushes etc.  Stuff you can't see basically.

I had some 24v heads from an Alfa Busso 3.0 V6 rebuilt by Hamlins Engineering in Bridgwater, Somerset and they did a great job. https://hamlinsengineering.co.uk/
Maybe I'll ask them: The owner, Mark Hamlin is an Italian car fan too, which is useful!

BTW - I bought the locking tool mentioned earlier from AECar.  It's well made, just a little pricey once VAT and postage is added.
£66 in fact.
