I got some pictures in the Haynes book as well but yours is more detailed.
As far as I can tell the part got stuck near the bolt (I can see a bolt on the casing while inspecting) but oddly enough , this bolt is supposed to be near the magnet.
On my diff the plug is not magnetic but when I inspect from the bottom I can clearly see the magnetic crud.
FroM the top I can see a bolt but not the crud so I guess there is something here (but it ia difficult to handle the camera )

Some news !
It’s not stuck anymore and it is now visible from the outside.
Thanks to vacuum , camera and wheel rotation to make it slide.
Now I can get to this position.
Vacuum has failed a couple of times, there is some resistance .
I bought a flexible “claw” like this that may have a better grip now that I can reach it :

What would you do ? Any other tool maybe ?

Ps : is there any risk to let the diff oil-less ? It’s been 48 h but usually I put back oil but if I can avoid that in order not to complicate things ?

Maybe something like this - if there's any resistance you may be able to spike the inside of the cable hole to allow you tease it out? It's the top left hook I'd try?

Yes that’s an idea… I tried with something similar.
The resistance is when pulling it towards outside.
A little move and it falls back and needs 5 minute vacuum to get it back here.
So it has to be precise but I’m afraid that the little force needed to “pick” in the cable hole would move it rather than grasp it

As to no diff oil, I left my diff drained for a few years as it had old oil in it and Eric recommended getting rid of it. No problems on refilling and using it now for over 1600km.

After careful inspection everything is pretty Normal in the diff. The metal plate that holds the gear is still there obviously.
My mistake was due to improper knowledge of the gear retaining system, seized metal casing at first, with the missing retaining screw. When I tried to realign the metal casing in front of the screw hole , I had to put effort to move the metal casing which led in pulling it too much, then the gear was loose on its plate. The other mistake was made by trying to recover the gear using wrong tools (and in an impatient manner) , and we know how it ended.

I made the screw (see picture with dimensions and the original useless screw) and was able to carefully reinstall everything .
Metal casing is know properly tightened , the gear rotates freely.

The bottom line is that , as usual, I learnt a lot with this incident
