Rewiring and AMP connectors

Hi all, I aim to replace parts of the loom as it's clear the old wires are too high a resistance.

How do people deal with the shape of existing connectors on things like the wiper motor?

That is, do people remove the existing wiper motor block connector by cutting the wires and joints wires to new connector or have people found a modern connect that is same shape as found on the wiper motor?

With the Spider I simply de-pinned each connector and replaced the spade connectors with new ones. They are pretty simple to de-pin and usuallly the housing is in decent condition.

Hi john In selected places where water is an issue I used Super Seal connectors. This included the Wipers and the connectors for the indicator/side light units. Otherwise it is bend the tab pull the connector cut it off crimp a replacement on clean wire re-insert repeat. 2 other things. Always tug test your crimps because it is better than them falling off later. You can silicon seal the block connector from the rear in wet areas and coast the pins with battery anti corrosion gel to keep them working.

Just on the wiper motor and per my comment on facebook mine were wired in via a relay rather than through the steering column which immediateley resulted in faster wipers.

I have used Super Seal connectors in my van and have a big set.  I think I am going to start with a boot rewire in the winter and add in a new LED switchable boot light and 12v outlet (maybe needs to be a direct connection to the battery?).  It looks like the original wiring has been completely replaced (its very thin wires) but does all work with the possible exceptions of the fog lights.

I will replicate the colours as best as I can.  I will trace it back as far as I can and see if it changes.

The under bonnet fuse and relay box is not running all of the relays and there have been some additions that have been added alongside.  Again baring slow wipers, that have stopped and I think are not happy (see above), most things all work.  Alt charging gauge seems to be working intermittently.  I had the alternator tested and its all good.  New battery that I have been disconnecting when not needing it.  I did a quick test the other day, but forgot a full load test.  This was off and engine running.

Cable and connectors any recommendations where to buy?  I was thinking I could strip and clean all the contacts of the spare fusebox I now have and try to swap it out at some point.  I am going to replace the earths and look at moving them as Peter said to me a while back.

This might take a while, but I dont feel very secure driving it much until a few of these items are sorted, like charging

To answer both John and Mark,

I found the wiper block connector at one of the
auto-electric suppliers, and it came with the barbed blades.

Vehicle Wiring Products and Polevolt are two companies I used following
a recommendation from Eric. I couldn't get everything from just one place.
