heater/blower only blows hot when on cold setting

Hello everyone,

Prepairing for my trip to the dolomites with my beta spyder 2000 s3, i found out yesterday the heater is blowing hot while on the cold position. Cant really find a fault, the cables work good, control panel feels normal. The heater valve on the right side of the heatercore is moving when changing temp. Anyone experienced this before? could the valve have a big internal leak?

I hope we dont need the heater on vacation, other than using it to cool the engine on steep climbs

Hi,
It could be one or two things.
The outer casing of the cable can slip in its mounting at the control lever end,
and the lower inner cable fixing can also slip at the heater valve.
I suggest you compare the motion of the valve to the movement
of the dash lever.
The valve lever can be encouraged to rotate a little further in order to shut off the water flow.
You may be able to adjust the position of the cable at the valve so as to go fully closed
and partially open on hot, which would be a good compromise for your trip, and until
you have time to investigate further.

Mine does exactly that and my conclusion is the valve is not sealing correctly, hence passing some water through the heater core even when fully shut.

I have avoided taking it off to check as it involves removing the centre console etc which I have yet to get the enthusiasm to do.

My Beta is in the same state.
I put a valve on the heater hose in the engine compartment because replacing the valve is troublesome.
I have fitted a motorbike choke wire so that it can be opened and closed from inside the cabin.
If there is a time to remove the console, I will replace the heater valves at that time.

I really like that heater tap solution, and it's probably better than the

nice solution! Have looked into that before for a fiat/seat 133. fitted a heater valve from a vw transporter T4. almost a direct fit.

For now i ordered a NOS valve and gasket, removing the console doesnt look to hard to do. I hope this will be the fix. When on the closed position you can still feel a little bit of heat in the pipes, cant be to hard.
