Noise reduction, paint protection and stopping the battery shorting if the terminal covers are not fitted properly/ present. Obviously if it is soaked in oil it adds to fire risk.

Personally I think they are more bother than they are worth, show off the underside of your bonnet instead. I suppose they aren't so bad on a sparingly used car but they always seemed to get skanky and tatty looking.

I got the original with the car. It was properly skanky (looked like a battery had exploded on it) and kicking it around the garage floor for the last few years haven't done it any favours either! The originals have the pattern of the underside of the bonnet pressed in unlike modern replacements. I'm not planning on fitting anything to mine yet but if the panel is noisy I'll put some soundproofing pads on it.

I did John. I chose to fill the scalloped sections. I got a large bonnet liner from
a breakers yard, off a Merc I think, made patterns, sewed all around to keep the
layers together, and glued them in with CT1.

Obviously not as effective sound-wise, but I quite like the look, and still have the battery
protection Eric mentioned.

Hi

I used the one Mark sells on the Spider and have to say pretty happy with it after 4+ years.

I have one to fit to the HPE.
