Fast Idle System 1982 Coupe (Aus) Carb
« on: October 26, 2025, 08:08:03 AM »
Hi there
I'm looking for some info in the fast idle system. I can't understand the logic of what's supposed to activate it. I have a solenoid and a test button mounted on the left engine bay brace. I also note there is a clutch switch and also a 3/4 switch on the gearbox that form some part of a cunning Italian plan to confuse amateurs like me. I am intending to use the fast idle to complement the aircon compressor (it's hot down here!). I'm in the process of rewiring as it has been left in a terrible mess. Dodgy connectors and lots of sticky electricians tape. Any help much appreciated. I'm tempted just to forget the 3/4 and clutch switches. I just wish I knew the intent of them. Thanks Dave F

Hi Dave,
I wish I could help with knowing what that fast idle button does. I had the
same questions with my HPE (au spec) when I got it. The a/c wasn't working anyway,
and seeing I didn't need it here, I removed everything. My car also has a clutch pedal
switch and also had a 2nd switch in the gearbox, subsequently deleted due to a g/box change.

I suspect the idle button/relay is something to do with servicing the engine without the a/c running, but
that's pure speculation.
