Coupe/Spider rear strut - Lancia pt number 82395817
« on: October 27, 2025, 02:01:58 PM »
Afternoon,

Anyone have a Coupe rear strut off the car I can get some comparison measurements from?  I have HPE ones fitted to my Coupe currently - Lancia pt number: 82395815 and am about to embark on a  conversion of donor HPE struts and Spax inserts to Coupe

I am looking for dimensions:

Centre of top mounting (hub attachment bolt) to top of spring platform

Centre of top mounting to top of strut

Top of spring platform to top of strut

My thoughts are everything is the same except the "Top of spring platform to top of strut" is 3cm shorter on a Coupe/Spyder

Thanks in advance

Wouldn't have thought you had rear HPE struts on your Coupe unless they have been previously cut down to fit?

I've got a converted HPE strut in my spares. If I get to my garage tomorrow as planned I'll dig it out and have a look. The conversion was simply done by cutting off a couple of cm from the top of the strut and welding the insert top back on.

Others will be more knowledgeable, but it's never a straight swap. If unmodified HPE struts had been fitted the back end of your car would be way up in the air compared to the front.

Hi Neil,

'I believe' the spring platform to hub mounting at the same, its the spring platform to top of damper and extended damper length is the main difference.  ie top of spring platform to top of damper housing is something like 7-8cm for Coupe's and 10+ for HPE's.  This is why you can actually convert them.  I think.  I will get it off the car in a day or two and we will see.

I could do with some measurements to confirm this from a real Coupe strut, or one that is a known working one.  Thanks for helping me out :-)

I thought I'd done this before so a bit of searching turned up this thread

You are a star.

Confirmed I have HPE struts fitted pt number: 82395815 - I wonder if this is part of the reason of the clunk?

C = 305 mm
D = 95~100 mm and coupe being 65 based on a S1 in your post (from MattNoVAT)

and C being the same means this is all cool.  Fingers crossed I can get these HPE inserts in, bearing in mind there is a + or - of 3cm to the top.  Jacked up I will get the struts out later and see if I need to order some parts

so struts out last night and found the clonk.  Its a screw on unit and the screw on bit looks like its backed off.  Its a genuine HPE part complete with part numbers.  Its not been shortened.  All the other parts look really good nick so full steam ahead to convert the donors to Coupe size...

Today I cut the top 2mm off of the donor HPE struts.  Slide hammer-stylee emptied the gubbins and quick clean and checked the Spax gas units for size, ie can I take 30mm out of the top of the struts etc and get the collars on.  This was done super quick during my lunch break and it does look okay

UNICORN - I SPOTTED THE UNICORN!!

The steel plate between the rubber and the spring - Mark has remade these but that one looks like it belongs in a museum! It's mint!

Ha ha!  Its is isnt it.  should I spray it with bilt hamber wax before it goes back in?  This car is an enigma, most parts are mint with the exception of interior and wiring.

Protect them as much as you can! They won't last forever otherwise!
