Whilst repairing and restoring the subframe for my HPE restoration I can’t get my head around the missing location dowels on the last series cars. As many of you know, the late cars were produced with a different style of subframe which had different rear mounts (among other tweaks).
The earlier cars had location dowels but this was dropped on the last subframe design although there is a threaded hole where the dowel should be. The corresponding hole is also in the floorpan ready for a location dowel.
So why?
Surely it should be used for accurate subframe alignment?
Many modern cars have similar arrangements and usually have alignment tools (rods or pins) for temporary fitment during subframe fitting.
So was there a factory tool?
I think im going to get some dowels made that screw into the subframe and locate into the floorpan seeing as the M16 x 1.5mm thread is already present.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
