Fuel Tank original coating (VX and i.e.)
« on: April 06, 2026, 03:51:17 PM »
I have just started to restore my fuel tank in (or out of) my VX Coupe.

This tank is the same as the i.e.

It has some light green rubbery fibrous coating. I was just wondering if any one knew the origin. I know its original as the tank still has the remnants of the Lancia Parts label.

As a matter of interest these tanks will start to rot in the top section mainly around the bends and corners. The top does not have this rubbery "stone chip" so rust can start to get a hold unnoticed and also rot inside at the top due to condensation when tanks are are left with minimal fuel.

Chatting to the guy from the garage my car is going off for tuning and dyno the other day reckons on completely empty tank if off the road at any point, due to the ethanol that turns to water in time in the fuel nowadays.

I pulled my tank out and waxed the top and underside of the body that only had the SA dust as protection.  I found a Lancia date stamp16th Aug 2004
