Fuel Pump
« on: April 19, 2026, 11:07:13 AM »
Good morning all
After a little advice please. My IE won't start this morning nothing at all . Its turning over fine however not firing a.t all.
The fuel pump has been noisy when warm for a while but now it's not seeming to prime or run at all. The relay is clicking on under the bonnet but not a peep out the pump. The pump should make a noise when the ignition is turned on shouldn't it?

Zero petrol smell either.

Thanks in advance

Check the power feed at the pump and the earth the other side - a bulb in line will work. If you get light then the pump needs taking off and bench testing.

I've never had an iE but I would expect it to make noise when the ignition is turned on or to spin the starter motor. It may be that the electronic circuits control power to the pump to only work when cranking the motor or when there is oil pressure. Testing the circuit for continuity is simple if you have enough wire and a test bulb.
