HPE added to my Lancia family

So Simplydelboy posted about selling one of his Lancia's a few weeks back right after I left a hefty bid on a Rover SD1(I need a classic I can use now not a project that I currently have. So my bid on that was unsuccessful so I immediately contacted Derek to view his HPE. I would have done this at the time had i not just put a bid on the above as the Lancia fits my criteria. So went to see it 12/04 but was aware of a small water leak that Derek insisted on rectifying first and today he has advised all sorted. So ive now paid for the HPE and in the process of having it transported to me (cam belt hasn't been done in 13 years so not risking the drive up the A1) thats on my list to do and will now get the bits ordered.   car should be here swiftly as soon as transport can fit it in just in time for show season

it does seem to be a recognised car. as for displaying at NEC I will be putting her forward for next years restoration show

Welcome to the relatively small HPE owners club!. Car looks very nice in Silver. It might be worth changing the thermostat as well, they do seem to become unreliable if left sitting around for a long time.

I'll check though I am sure Derek was on top of anything needing doing. I had to wait a week for him to sort a small leak that he wouldn't let me buy the car with.

Hi all, yes the thermostat was replaced last year and radiator recored. Steve's transport is collecting the car on Tuesday and I will be very sad to see it go, it's a great car. Yes the car was on the NEC stand I think in 2014. Good luck with it Steve and thanks for making the sale so straight forward.

Long wait today for the car to arrive and thank you to Derek for being patient with the transport guy who was delayed on earlier jobs. 
As with all classics already cars a few jobs I need to attend to but she’s is a beaut that has been well cared for by its previous owner and I am looking forward to owning her for a very long time and enjoying her in the summer

I suggest liberal rustproofing everywhere even if it's been done already. Especially
at the door and side top areas, and sills/inner sills.
I guess, given the previous owner, that all servicing is up to date. I have a 'rule'
that I change oil and filter every 2/3k miles or so.

Camelot requires changing and is on its way. I have also order oil and filter as a precaution. I will inspect the paperwork tomorrow and decide whether it needs doing now or later . She's not had much use over the last year or so due to owner being unwell I think so I expect somethings to suffer as a consequence such as I think i have a sticky caliber I could feel it pulling as I backed in the garage. may just want a clean up and I am not bothered by it at all. All part of classic ownership but I do want to check it out before embarking on any lengthy journey.

So the car arrived and I put it straight into the garage as it was late. I noticed though immediately a brake caliper was sticking so today I’ve got her up on stands so I can investigate the issue. I have ordered to rebuild kits for the rears and also a service kit for the engine and cambelt so all this will be done at the same time when the parts arrive.  I am also looking for a local dent specialist as there’s a small dent in the front wing I want looking at

So today I had delivery of the final parts needed for Camelot change and engine major service.

Didnt go to plan, fired up the engine which kicked into life and promptly stopped. got very worried at this point that I had got something wrong and close to stripping everything out again but once I took the airbag off I found an electrical connector for something on the fuel side unplugged. put this on and away she went.

fixed a few bits that weren't quite right like the dropping door which was a hinge bolt missing and then re fitted captive nuts so the door card could be correctly attached

The door cards need a refurb not least because they don't match the seats but this will be a winter job. Also have a weep from steering rack (PAS) so will be taking that out at some point, again hopefully winter time.

Door window seals and electric window power supply the next jobs to tackle after Ive done the brakes.

Hopefully get her out on the road over the weekend

After 11 days finally got her back on four wheels and running again.  Was planning on a drive out this afternoon but weathers turned so I’ve put her away again

Issue with running to resolve, she hunting quite badly on tickover when warm. I expect I’ll have to take her somewhere to resolve that as that’s not really my forte.

Still got a list of things to do and change and finding improvements I’d like to make many of which will be over winter projects

Also found some rust that will need to be dealt with sooner rather than later one in the tailgate runner frame and the bottom of rear quarter has some bubbling.

Regarding the hunting at idle I'm not well up in injection Betas but I think a lot of L jetronic cars have an idle air valve that might cause this. Number 7 I think?

I had a Y10 GTie and it was this unit causing erratic air supply, I think it is only supposed to operate when the engine is cold. I found a new one that was similar but not the exact match and it fixed the issue. However it could be an air leak or set up issue anywhere within fuel and ignition systems  injection systems are really easy much more so than carbs, check the book in the downloads and read it up.

well I was under the bonnet today doing coolant change and noticed that a connector was off of the part discussed and thus I plugged it back in and now idling much better

finally taken her out for a quick spin in the countryside. All the service works now complete, Ive changed just about everything in the last 10 days to do with engine and also rebuilt the rear claspers and fitted new pads. Given her a little polish which has revealed one or two things to do, a few little paint blemishes and some corrosion to deal with also the corner brackets on the nearside front and rear bumpers are not doing their job. They are present but one isn't attached to the bumper and the other is twisted so holding in the wrong place. I am guessing I am going to have to remove the bumpers to deal with that problem.   

Loving the car and pleased with my purchase.  Still not sure what to do with the Spyder though as I feel much of my time will be taken up improving the HPE
