Battery Charging
« on: May 21, 2010, 06:12:17 PM »
Am I just showing my age or do I still need to disconnect the battery on my 1978 Spyder when charging.  Somewhere at the back of my ancient mind I seem to remember that not disconnecting could damage the alternator.  Ammy

It's still advisable, although I think most modern charges run at less than 4 amps.
I have to admit, I charge with battery attached, but with ignition off of course.

so it's up to you, if I wasn't a lazy,shortcutter I'd disconnect battery.

When I charge my battery on my Coupe its not disconnected if its just a "top up", as Geoff says ingnition is off, live to the battery and earth to the engine or suspension top mount bolts.

If it's properly flat then I'll disconnect it and charge it up.
