Steering / Re: PAS Rack fluid leak
« Last post by JASPER_40 on Today at 06:56:05 AM »
Just wanted to chime in to say that I bought the PAS rack seal kit from BB and Mark supplied the extra seal aswell.

The rack was re-built and the extra seal was in fact required.....Rack now working well and dry inside the gaiters.

My only disappointment with the re-build was that the guy sprayed the whole rack black to make it look nicely re-furbished. I had to clean the black paint off.
I suspect that these re-build shops spray the rack to help justify a hefty price. My suggestion would be to expressly tell them to NOT spray it after re-build. wont cost you any less but ....

Also, I pulled the rack out through the hole in the drivers side inner wing...the hole that has the big rubber gaiter through which the steering arm passes. all quite straight forward.

Cheers

Steve

3D Printed Parts / Re: Repair piece for broken side dash vents

Yep, you are right to be fearful of 40 year old plastic parts....which is why I have a 3d Printer !!.

However, The side vents have a single screw at the side of the vent in the door Jamb and then there are 4 sprung plastic tabs on the front plane of the vent that holds it in place.

I used a cheap wide plastic trim removal lever to lift and hold the vent up as much as possible and then used a large flat blade screwdriver the lever the vent forward. I mostly did this with my eyes closed !!

The second vent was easy knowing how to do it.

The replacement control bar for the vane just snaps in and the whole vent simply clicks back in place

I can post the control bar in the 3d print section of the forum if you can find someone with a printer to make it up. Here in Oz there are little boutique 3d print shops in shopping centres who will do small print jobs for you.

Cheers,

Steve

Body / Re: How to replace door quarterlight glass ?
« Last post by JASPER_40 on Today at 03:34:18 AM »
Hi Guy,

Yep, it was a real trial trying to get the correct quarterlight glass but eventually sourced it from US.

I am amazed how many cars do not have a passenger side mirror as it is such a benefit when reversing.

Cheers,

Steve

I'll be there Tim, although I don't think I'm registered for the track.
I didn't know that was a thing.

Thanks to Mark and Neil for the info on the Vickers Gate entry.

Bad luck Mark. I was looking forward to seeing your car again.
Hope to see you anyway.

Indeed, the gaiters are dust covers, dry inside.

Not had a problem with Dayco ones and they're made in Italy :)  The 148 teeth is the 2000 engine one (same as a Monte), so usual choices being:

You might want to look at a tensioner as well  (y)
