New Beta owner from Suffolk . . .
« on: June 04, 2013, 04:40:00 PM »
Hi all,

Just bought my first Lancia - a 1978 Beta Coupe in Capri Blue. She needs a fair amount of restorative work but I'm used to restoring classics.

I'm sure I'll be posting more soon as I get involved in getting her back on the road!

Here's a picture:

Hi and welcome.

That car looks familiar - did you by from Kings Lynn way?

Also where in Suffolk are you? I'm in Bury where there are at least two other Coupes as well as my Spider.

Nice looking workshop BTW!

That used to be home to a Corvette too if I'm not mistaken but I'll let Terry confirm!

Thanks for the replies . . .

I'm near to Bungay. I bought the car from Kent where it's been sat for quite a while to say the least, but, it appears to be in not too bad a condition. There is some history but not masses.

Other car is a Spitfire and is a Mk IV and on the other side (which can't be seen) is a GT6 and a MGB.

Stuart - you're not mistaken, it used to be home to several Corvettes although just the one remains now and that hasn't been in the workshop. . . yet!!! Question is how you know about the Corvette???

The Lancia had been fitted with twin carbs although the original single carb is back on it (well actually on the bench) as it wasn't bolted down. As a result, the radiator has been moved and angled to allow space for the twin carb setup, so i'll need to remedy that. I managed to get the engine to turn over the weekend and so I'm going to refurb the carb and see if I cna get her fired up sometime soon. There doesn't appear to be any markings on the Weber (I thought that they were usually on the base) so i'm not sure what type it is. Could be a 34/ 36???

Red House Classics yes? I'm pretty sure I've seen your cars at a couple of shows!

The carb should be a 34 DATR or 34 DMTR rebuild kits are available but bodies with the right choke sizes (25 & 27 IIRC) are scarce

Hi Stuart,

Red House Classics is nothing to do with me . . . It's some sort of Facebook group that my Father In Law set up (not sure why) but he posts photos of the Classics we have. You must have seen it on Facebook (scourge of the internet and I tend not to use it!

Thanks for the info about the Carb. I'll see if I can see which one it is. Maybe I'll post a photo...
