Rich,
I also use E5 exclusively and the car runs really well, and appear
to have no issues being laid up over winter.

The last time I used E10 I had a long run to do and it was a hot day. After 90 minutes I suffered some quite bad fuel vaporization, so I've stuck to E5 since then.

R9 rated ethanol or better - now I have the car the first thing I checked under the bonnet was the fuel hose which says ‘R6 - SUITABLE FOR UNLEADED’.

So presumably R6 is better than R9? (R10 are for submersible hoses.  Probably not for cars then.)

Hi

R6 was originally rated for ethanol from memory, but that was some years ago. R9 is significantly less permeable and is the current recommended specification. You will probably find that the hoses are old and are very likely to suffer from cracking etc. I would replace them. I would also go for a branded R9, such as Cohline etc from a reputable supplier.
