HPE rear inertia seat belts

I wonder if anyone has managed to fit inertias to the rear of an HPE.

The existing threaded mounting points don't appear to offer any
solution.

All 5 of the HPE's I've had already had inertias fitted to the rear.

None of my HPE's had inertia reel belts on the back seats. S1Fl1 and 2 VX's. Neither of the Coupe's had them either (1978 S1FL1 and 1980 FL2)

They're mounted on top of the fixed part of the rear seat backrests using hidden L shaped brackets that are fixed into the body at the C pillar. You can see them in these attached pictures.
In picture 5656 you can just see the rear of the reels & the bolts fixing them to the L brackets through the trim. This is how they were fitted to all the HPE's I've had, I thought the importers fitted them as standard although possibly not.

Many thanks. That helps hugely. My car is an Australian market version, hence perhaps
the static belt fitment.

Were rear belts, inertia or static, an option in all UK Betas? None of my Coupes have had them.

Hi Neil,
I assume at the time, rear belts were not a required fitment, and that they were probably
a dealer option.
Having said that, I don't recall fitting them
during my time [79-81] at the dealer. I probably did though, just not exciting enough to remember.

As now established, all Beta's have rear mounting points somewhere or other, but
in some cases the positions are not perfect and need extra bracketry, or extra
mounting plates welded in.

I looked at making an L shaped bracket as already described, but thought
there may be too much flex.
So I created one more anchor point 200mm back from the original, then made up
a bracket in 3mm steel which fixes to both bolt positions.
This was covered in thin black carpet, as is the rest of the rear area.
Then repeated on the other side.
The reel mounts in the same position as pictured earlier, although maybe slightly
further back.

Not all inertia reels work when flat mounted. These came from Universal Belts and were initially
fitted to the front. However they weren't retracting properly, so I purchased another set of 2 from
CBS for the front. These CBS items have a thicker shoulder bar which promotes belt travel.

I suspect the facility to fit rear seat belts was a legal requirement when Betas were built but probably only two point / lap belts.

That would stack up with the mounts I have on the Spider.
