Centre console side fixings in a 82 Beta Coupe?
« on: July 11, 2025, 11:44:57 PM »
I am looking for a picture and some measurements of the screws that hold the centre console in please.  I have one missing, the other looks wrong.  Thank you

Hi Mark,

did you get what you wanted ?

otherwise I can help with pics and specifications.....Can you be more specific. Do you mean the lower centre conssole screwed to the floor or the upper console (houses the cicar lighter) where it fixed to the lower ?

Guessing the latter ?

Cheers,

Steve

Yes it was just what the nut and bolt fixings look like.  Thank you for following up though Steve.

I still need to source something though.  Another on the list

Hi,

Sourcing a used OE part like this is practically impossible and paying for it will be eye watering....too hard.

I used an oversize repair rivet and then tapped the rivet to take a bolt and this solved my fixing problem. The fitment of the top console to the bottom was always a poor design / fit and seemed so unfinished and "gappy"........ So I created a 3d printed cover strip that clips on and finishes the appearance of the tray a bit better.

I have also spent ages trying to source all sorts of plastic trim parts for the interior to no avail and have ended up printing parts with great success (IMHO). I found that simple refinishing of printed parts makes them indistinguishable from OE parts....very satisfying. PM me if you need anything plastic for the interior that you are having difficulty sourcing

Also,

All the upper and lower consoles that I have seen appear to be dark green. I can only assume that they were originally black but age and UV have conspired to alter the colour. Odd that nothing else in the car seems to have suffered the same.

I will at some point re-finish these consoles in black unless someone can tell me that that these items are supposed to be this colour ?

Cheers,

Steve

If you check my rebuild thread (And So It Begins) I've got some photos of treatment on the centre console parts. I have two slightly different designs and one reacted better to treatment with Owatrol Polytrol better than the other. I have one set with a double fir tree type fitting in addition to the oval nut and screw on each side and that has got back to a nice dark black colour. The other wasn't quite as effective.

Hi Guy, I had to scroll through 32 pages of your rebuild before I found the rennovation of the centre console on the last page. If you had told me where it was, I would have missed all the fantastic work you have done....just brilliant and to take the time to document the journey.....

Anyway, I saw your stratos replica and PFT 5T and coincidentally, back in 1983, I owned PFY 4T which was on a 1979 Lancia Beta Coupe 1600. Really good car. Also coincidentally, I was looking to build thew HF 2000 stratos replica and should have followed this through but I decided to go for the Quadriga Ferrari 308 replica..........mistake.

Eveything is sort of out at the moment.  Yes mine is green'ish.  For the time being I am in an electrics world.  I still need to find a bolt and nut that works for the console.

I will be back once I am putting everything back in :-)

In the late 80's~early 90's there was a place in Bristol main industrial estate, and another one I went to once, cant remember where.  They were both Lancia specialists, and they had a bunch of cars you could crawl over removing all those special bits and bob that were missing from you cars.  Jeeze I miss those days

Hi Steve - Small world! I guess you know that the Stratos is registered PFY3T and the Skoda PFY2T (that plate has been with me since 1980 on numerous cars). I don't suppose you still have the registration document for the car by any chance?? I never saw that car around Liverpool, I guess it had moved away from the area when you had it (not that I know where you're based!)?

I last saw PFY5T in Connahs Quay on a blue Saloon in the mid to late 1980's and regret not putting a note on the windscreen! I also saw PFY7T and PFY10T around Liverpool a few times.

Finally - PFY1T - I saw this plate for sale in a copy of Supercar Classics whilst I was building but couldn't afford it at the time. It later turned up on a Stratos Replica with a Ferrari Dino engine built by Peter Ashdown. I asked him to sell me the plate if he ever parted with it but the car went to Australia and the plate was cancelled.
