3D Parts Board

Hi All

Given that this is likely to be a growing interest area for unobtainable parts, I thought a separate section for any designs and requests would be appropriate.

I know Steve (Jasper_40) has already designed a significant number of parts and I am now on the steepish learning curve to design parts I am looking to have for the HPE.

As a starter for 10, I have started very simple with a key to help turn the stiff light adjusters and a knob for the intermittent wiper relay. Neither particularly challenging, but allows me to learn a lot. I also downloaded a gasket design for between the heater matrix and the stop valve.

Please remember printing is one thing which you press the button and leave it to do its thing, designing it is a whole different world and can take significant amounts of time and trial and error.

I would echo Peter's comment about the actual design of the part to be printed being the most complicated and time consuming part of the procedure.

I modelled the x-clip for the side trim and it took me about a week as it had a lot of complicated geometry. whilst it was a good design excercise it is just not ecconomically viable as the part is releatively easy to source as an injection moulded item. It would be a different matter altogether if the part was unobtainable

Also worth bearing in mind that 40/50 year old plastic is brittle and a used part that seems OK may be very fragile. A newly printed part may be more serviceable and have a better longevity.

Cheers
