Trunk lock
« on: February 13, 2026, 08:32:39 PM »
Had to replace my trunk lock because the key was missing.
Before committing to using the key to lock it I would like to know if it’s installed correctly.

Hi Joe

When you say the key is missing, did you realise you could re pin the existing lock to allow the use of the same key as for the doors?

Not quite sure what you mean re is this installed correctly?

Doesn't look right to me, I think the locks' push bar should be the other side of the lever in the housing. However, if you turn the lock 180 degrees and install it in the boot lid the action of closing the lid should move the lever back as it hits the latch allowing you to turn the lock back to the push to open position.

ps. lock someone in the boot with an 8mm socket and a torch just in case. Or remove a light cluster so you can poke your arm in to undo it!

Ignore my last post! The lock assembly is bolted on 180 degrees out. It's in the locked position as the barrel isn't protruding from the housing. Flip it round, turn the key to move the lever round 180 degrees and the push barrel will pop out. Intall it in the locked position, the action of closing there boot lid will move the housing lever back leaving space for the barrel lever to rotate into the push to open position.

Take the two parts apart, insert the key in the lock and turn it to the open position (with the barrel protruding from the housing). Dry assemble it on the bench into the housing so that it pushes against the lever in the housing. That'll be the correct orientation. You can test it on the bench by using a bolt as the duplicate of the catch that's on the boot slam panel which should hold the housing lever in the correct position. This will show you that the key can turn the lock to the locked position without the housing lever moving and return it to the opening position ready to push to open the boot. Reassemble on the car and you're done.

I am guessing you are taking the photos on something like an iPhone. The Apple software automatically adjusts the orientation, but when you upload it simply shows them as is. What I do is go into edit on the photo and rotate it by 180 degrees, save, then rotate it again by 180 degrees. This looks the same on the iPhone, but when you upload elsewhere it will be as you viewed it on the iPhone rather than at various orientation.

Like this? If remove the key and push on the barrel the silver lever pushes the gold one back and forth. If I turn the key clockwise to remove the key the gold lever will snap forward and If I try to turn it back it won’t pass to get back in the same position. So I assume the part that’s on the body must prevent it to fully close so it has the space to let it get back to that position.
