Starter relay
« on: March 01, 2026, 10:44:31 PM »
Whilst fitting new coolant hoses and stainless jub. clips today I was looking at the wiring for the engine and noticed that the under bonnet wiring from the 7+1 connector by the servo to the temp/oil sendersetc would make an easy wet weekend project to build on the bench and replace.  Question I have is around the starter relay the owners before me have added.  Does this relay need to be anything special rating wise, inc the wiring?

I will relocate it to a nice box on the inner wing when I do this.

Hi Mark you are building a 30 amp relay setup to the solenoid not the main current to the starter. 30 amp capable cable on the load side 16amp cables on the switching side. Remember longer cables carry less load perhaps 25amp fuse load side 10amp fuse switch side. That might be a bit high given the switch is the ignition barrel 7.5 might do.
