Intetresting car things to see in Northern Italy?
« on: April 07, 2026, 06:55:45 PM »
So in the Summer me and the other Ferrit's are driving to Greece (Lefkada) for a week holiday and driving back over a couple weeks via Ancona in North East of Italy.  What cool car related things can I plan in?  I was thinking the Alfa Romeo Museum nr Milan.  We are going in August.

There's the Fiat Heritage Centre in Turin. I want to visit that as it looks spectacular. If you're going further south then there are the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums too. Also in Turin is the Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia (National Motor Museum). They're all worth a visit but if you haven't got like minded people around you it'll be a drag for them and you'll be arranging further trips....

The Schlumpf Museum is equally mind blowing but probably off the beaten path for you this time.

I would highly reccomend a stroll along Via Vincenzo Lancia to see the remains of the Lancia Factory and Palazzo Lancia - not too far away is Ex stabilimento Lancia which is the original Lancia factory which is on the south western corner of Corsa Racconigi and Corso Peschiera.

There is the former FIAT factory at Lingotto, but you need to visit the art gallery on a day it is open to get onto the roof. There is an excellent shopping centre full of restaurants on lower floors.

For a total Beta pilgramage - visit Chivasso - not much to see other than what remains of the factory behind Centro Commerciale, Chivasso in the service road - a rather decayed modernist style factory. The Town Centre and Piazza Della Republica in the middle is very charming and you can almost imagine that some of the older folk you'll see around could have been responsible for building your Beta!

The ultimate Lancia pilgramge has to be Fobello which is the birth place of Vincenzo Lancia. I have a crazy idea to go there in my Coupe when all is well with it again!

Next year I want to do something like that Alex, I doubt I can go visiting car factory ruins on this trip but I will check it all out just in case I am passing the door.  Thank you for this.

Right I need to map all these out next.

Part of the old Fiat factory, the Lingotto, is a hotel. I stayed there and it was possible to ask for the key and take the elevator up there for a little wander around.

If you have time on the return journey then I recommend taking in the Italian Lakes and coming back via the Stelvio Pass. The chances of a fast run up the hill are slim but it's possible if your passengers are comfortable with your spirited driving.... There's also the Tonale and Gavvia passes too.

Thanks for this.

I have done quite a few cycling trips to this area over the years.  Cycled up and down Stelvio (both sides) multiple times.  My fav ride is Gavia hands down.  Cycling from 30+ degrees into a snow storm at the top is amazing.  I would love to do some of these in my Beta.  Stayed in Bormio on trips but trying to find self-catering for the family is actually really difficult.  A few years ago we did a couple weeks in Lenzerheide, mtbing and hiking, we did a trip into Italy and spent the day swimming etc on Lake Como.  If our friends in France (Venosc) manage to sell this year we most likely will head to this region on our way home

My goal is to do something like this in my Beta next year for my 60th.  Anyway back to reality and this trip...
